Shared on Tue, 08/05/2008 - 16:17Wow, what a week indeed. Last wednesday, the teachers returned as we prepare for another school year. When they return, the demand for my "services" (and not the cool kind) rise. Computers need fixing, users need access, people need the computer man. That's ok, it helped amp up my work ethic for awhile, which had majorly waned in the light of projects and things that kept me at my desk.
School starts tomorrow. Yes tomorrow. Don't ask me why. I feel fully prepared for the onslaught of need coming my way. I have been very on the ball this week and met my personal goal of one functional machine per classroom to use for attendance taking. I can focus on the rest later.
In gaming news, Gamefly began to disappoint me last week. I rented Assassins Creed for 360 from them, great game and was something that I really enjoyed. Only one problem, apparently the disc was so used that it couldn't go past a certain point. And was this point at the start of the game? No. It was at the middle of the game, where you're into the story and you are enjoying every second of your playtime. So what can I do about it? Nothing, except tell Gamefly. The good thing about them is that you can easily report a problem and they respond fast. I told them my disc was damaged, and in less than 24 hours, they shipped out the next game on my list. I send Assassins Creed back and all was well. Except the next game on my list sucked! But that's my fault.
I'm almost done with the Wii. It seems that any game I get interested into these days by name or description in it turns out to be some old crappy PS2 port. I sold my PS2 to pay for the Wii, why would I want to play PS2 games on it? :) Just doesn't make sense. If anybody can offer up good Wii games, that'd be great.
And then, I get this news.
I've been gaming since I was about 8 or so years old. Really, one of my first memories of PC gaming (heck, PC use) was a sierra game called Kings Quest 1. I moved through all 6 of those. All 4 Police Quests, 3 Quest for Glory's (even have the original box art for when it was called Hero's Quest) I would say that 95% of the games I played between the age of 8 and 15 were Sierra brand games. Good grief, having to install the sierra games on our computer is what helped me learned the DOS interface better than anything. I work better in a command prompt these days because of that. It breaks my heart to hear that they might possibly be dropped. But the bottom line is: What Sierra was famous for just isn't possible anymore.
They can't create another game like King's Quest because we don't have the patience to play it through without going www.gamefaqs.com and downloading the walkthroughs! I remember when I was a kid, my dad would refuse to buy me a hint book for these games. He even refused to buy me the sequels until I had beat the original games. Talk about incentive :)
Either way, I am going to hate to see Sierra go. I've still got the first 4 Kings Quest boxes, I might have to get those from my parent's house and take pictures for you guys. Classic indeed.
However, they have one last huzzah. Ghostbusters. Man that game is tasty looking.
Happy gaming all.
EDIT: Games like THIS are why I loved Sierra so much. Good times.- jquack's blog
