Shared on Wed, 08/06/2008 - 11:54I just spent one hour outside digging a hole to burry a dead cat. The temp was 98 degrees and the heat index was around 101, and I almost passed out several times. I wasn't over dressed and I was in the shade. I don't see how construction workers and road workers make it through a day like this or even hotter. Maybe it's I am too white, I burn in less than half an hour if I am not wearring at least 30SPF sun block. How do these people keep from passing out? I use to be able to stay outside in the heat all day, but that's when I was 17. Now I don't think I could make it for half a day. It's not like I just went out and dug for an hour without a break, no I took a break and had some cold water but I still felt like I was going to black out. I have to say that people that work outside all day have the hardest jobs in the summer, I know I couldn't ever do it.
You know when you are driving down the road and you have to stop for road contruction; I, like most people, get mad about having to stop and wait for the other traffic. I had never stoped to think about the fact that at least I am sitting in a nice air conditioned car and not standing out in the blistering heat. I don't know how you guys stay out in the heat all day long and work around hot machinery, but thank you. Without people like you our roads would never get built and buildings wouldn't get constucted. Most of us take people like this for granite everyday, I just thought it would be nice to give credit where credit is due. I would like to thank each of you in this line of work for all that you do!
