Hummers!

I've been feeding hummingbirds for over two years now. They give much entertainment and I like to call them the Warhawks of the sky. They do maneuvers that are just crazy. Twirls, zig-zags, backward rolls, spins. They're super flyer's. I have about seven hummingbirds that fly around my house all day long. They're very territorial, but it's just a lot of fussing and chasing each other. They dive bomb each other with tremendous speed and then stop on a dime.

I was sitting outside just enjoying the day. The hummers are zipping all around chirping as they go. Most of them just keep an eye on me, but are not too concerned with me. The next thing I know I hear a loud humming sound on the side of my face. I turn slowly and maybe two inches in front of my face is a h-bird hovering and checking me out. She kept darting side to side while fussing at me. She went around my head a lot and then took off just to come back and do it all over. I had to close my eyes, she was so close I could feel her wings touch me. She is always chirping and checks out every nook to see if maybe some other humbird is hiding. I took my camera to see if I could take a few pics of her, and I got a few and one is her right in my face. She really checked out the camera. I thought for a few seconds she just might kick my A**.

Here she is in all her frenzied ways.

Flight: She's making sure the feeder is not being used by the other hummers, but they are at the other feeder at the front of the house.

Cute she is:

Her fave plant: Look real hard she's right in the middle at the bottom of the plant

Feeder:

In my face:

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to make more sugarwater. . .

I love hummingbirds. Supposedly we have them here on long island but I've lived here my whole life and have never seen one around.

they are sweet and are so tiny. they couldn't hurt much, maybe give your eyes something to think about...lol I have lot's of fun with them. My grandmother gets them at her house as well. she sent me the feeder to see if I could get some to come around and they did. So then I got a feeder for my mother and now she feeds hers. We are a humbird family....lol
