August 16, 2008 will always be etched in my brain.

That was the day I ran my first 5K race. Yup, I paid for the enjoyment of running 3.1 miles. I started working out back in January and I even joined the 2old2play weight loss group. I have had my ups and downs but I have been slowly losing weight the good old fashion way. Exercise !!! I have been working out 4 days a week most weeks since January. Life as gotten in the way, but I keep fighting back. The culmination of this was yesterday and I really enjoyed it.

One of the highlights of the race was running up clock tower hill. I need to go take a picture of it but in the meantime here is a picture of it during the Tour de Georgia.

You come up from the right (the road from the right is also a hill) and make the turn and then you are looking at this. A lot of people were walking up it but not me!!

I am happy to say I RAN the whole race and never walked. My goal was to run the race in 30:00. When I crossed the finish line I saw 30:01. Hey, I am happy. I missed my goal by 1 second.

Here is a picture of me finishing the race. I am about 15 feet away from the finish line when I realized that I had a great chance of making 30:00. Like the shirt? A bunch of us that workout together had t-shirts made. DOT green. You could spot us a mile away.

So, what is next? Looks like I am going to run another 5K on Sept. 20. That race is on a much flatter course so I am hoping to do some more training and see if I can get 29:00. There is another one on Sept. 13, that I might also do.

Random Results of the 5K

Winning time: 15:38 (THAT IS INSANE)

Winning Grand Master time (over 60): 19:20

Youngest Racer: 6 years old (3 of them)

Oldest Racer: 91years old. His time: 85:56 2old2run?? NEVER
