Jason Statham is my hero

My wife and I never watch movies anymore. We used to, but ever since Lost, 24 and Criminal Minds came out, there really has been no need to watch movies. Over the summer, since there is nothing on, we have started to watch movies again. This past weekend, we rented The Eye and The Bank Job. Funny story about The Eye, but later.

Now, Jason Statham is not what you would call an ‘actor’. He is more of a stuntman. I have never liked any of his films (Transporter 1 or 2, and Dungeon Seige, etc), so when I heard about The Bank Job, I figured it was just another in a long line of b-movie action flicks. Definitely not on my radar. It wasn’t until my father told me that this one was different; he was right. Now, I won’t go into a long movie review, because I suck at those. I just wanted to point out the job that Statham did. From the opening scene, he plays a solid role as Terry Leather. By the end, I wanted him to kick someone’s ass. Something about the period (1970s) and the character just suited him so well.

On to The Eye. My history with scary movies is a love/hate story. I love to watch them, but I turn into a little girl by the end a regret ever thinking about it. My wife is the same. Usually, when we are at the video store, I will jokingly suggest some crazy-scary movie that I know she will turn down. When she came to me and suggested The Eye, I was shocked. I quickly said, “ok!” and rushed to the counter to check out. On the way home, I said, “now, you know this is a scary movie”, her reply was, “I know, it can’t be that bad”. Well, after about 45 minutes of Jessica Alba walking down dark halls, and running into crazy oriental school boys, we were ready to pull the plug. My wife was digging her nails into my leg so hard, I still have scars. I hate how these movies use frame skips to make things scary. You’ll have some dude walking towards Jessica’s door, while she is looking out the peephole, then all of a sudden, it skips frames and he is right up at the door. Fuck! I hate that! You know it’s going to happen, just not when. Kind of like popping a balloon in someone’s face. Still, I love watching them. Gets the blood flowing.

Funny thing during the previews for The Eye: There was a trailer for The Eye 2. You got to love straight-to-DVD releases.

X.

i don't really like scary movies. it's not that i don't like being scared or frightened, i just have a personal distaste for them. i think those stupid "scream" and "i know what you did last summer" turned me off of any kind of scary/horror movie.
