September 9, 2008
Dear Students and Parents:
Four students from Council Rock High School North were transported to the hospital at approximately 12:15 yesterday afternoon, after ingesting some pills, purchased from the internet, known as “SNURF.” As of this writing, three students have been released from the hospital.
We believe that “SNURF” contains a chemical commonly found in over the counter cold and cough medicines, DXM. Contrary to some news reports, this pill is not the kind of drug that kids “get high” on; rather, it is the kind of drug that makes kids sick. Currently Newtown Police are examining the pills, which they believe are chemical and not herbal in nature.
Our drug and alcohol prevention teams and crisis response teams at both high schools have been alerted to this issue. It is the first we have dealt with this particular drug in our school district. We will continue our prevention and education efforts and request your help in speaking with your child about the dangers of this kind of drug.
More coverage here. Time to have a major sit down with my kids, the eldest being in 8th grade and on the cusp of this crap. At least he's going to the other high school in our district - but I won't play that I think it'd be any different.
I really need my kids understand posting anything on youtube is a capital offense in my home. Tho', the "Crap, no more chicken sandwiches." was kinda funny.
