Got another letter from my betrothed today.  Got a short one yesterday, she was basically apologizing for not sending a longer letter because she got called to work an extra shift and didn't have time.

So the letter today was telling me about how she thought about me at work all last night, and how she even dreamed of me and we were on the beach.  Now her english kind of broke up here, but I think I might've scored in the dream.  Woot!

She also said (in reference to something I asked her) that yes, she would miss her friends and family if she, as she puts it, came to me.  But she says that its more important to have a loving man and since the men in her area all suck, she's willing to travel.  I paraphrased the last part of that.  She claims her mom supports her and understands what she's doing.

Now I gotta ask...what does anyone make of this?  I mean, if its a scam then wtf kind of sickos come up with this stuff?  If its somewhat or even all legit, how do you not feel bad for someone so desparate to get out of their current situation that they would leave all they know behind and do something like this?  And even worse, with me?

I was pondering these questions to myself when I came to the end of the letter, and to the most recent pic she's sent me:

 

I'm sorry...what was I saying?

Oh, right...the letters.  So yeah, got another letter today...

Sounds like some girl trying to get anchored in the US. This kind of behavior, on her part, is of desperation and is deplorable. My suggestion would be to remove yourself from the situation and find someone local that will want to be with you for who you are, not what you can give them. I think it will save you alot of drama in the future. And, I say this to you with all due respect.

Well there's a whole lot to consider if I were to go through with this. I mean, she could be some lunatic that winds up slaughtering me. On the other hand, I haven't looked too hard but when I have poked my head out locally I haven't found a whole lot going on in the form of dating. And I appreciate the bluntness of your comment. I'm looking for all kinds of opinions, good or bad.

She is cute, might as well give it a shot and see where it leads. IN that photo--is it just the lighting or does it appear she has a shiner?

Good call, I didn't see that. It looks like either a little shiner or maybe a little eye infection. Its definitely not the lighting though.

play it out till the time comes for her to "come to you", and see if she ask's you any personal info..........like the fact that she needs a bank account to put her money in, or if she has money, but cant get to it where she is, and she needs somewhere to send the money..............I've heard of those scams before.......I'd just play it out, let her do all the work, and dont give up any personal info

Totally, no personal info (or money, for that matter) will be exchanged. If it plays out and she wants to come here, she can give me a flight number and arrival time. :)

Oh, you! Don't make me give you a lecture! You asked "what kind of sickos come up with a scam like this" - let me tell you, dear sir, PLENTY! And I am not saying this to be disrespectful, but you are right is questioning why a young girl would want to uproot her entire life to be with some "mature" gentleman in a foreign country. And a gentleman she does NOT know in the least. Careful.....careful....
