It's damn familiar. The lobbies, the perks, the ranking system, the load in, the status screens. The little tips and reminders. The grendade indicator seems more detailed, the guns sound different, but mostly it's COD4.... downgraded. You can really tell that the COD4 engine is running this thing, but the facade is a mockery of what could have been wrought by better hands.

So what about CODW@W did IW not contribute: The Maps... and the maps, suck.

Imagine Bloc over and over again. All three map offerings at this point are large, cluttered pathways centered around a focal point that is certain death for anyone that wanders towards it. So far I have done well by staying to the perimeter and keeping out of tanks, and off of ledges. The maps remind me of that fatefull three hours I played COD3; and kept getting stuck on a board laying on the ground, or a mysterious plant in the middle of a path. There is simply too much shit in the maps. It's like my grandmothers house, but instead of cats you have killer dogs.

With the maps being the only thing that makes this a Treyarch game.... my vote is that they move away from COD and leave it IW for any future series.

Release the HOUNDS!!! Jeep

My biggest complaint is that they had COD4 and they should have made 10 + maps to support the damn thing and they didn't do shit. Fuck them and their new attempt to get 60 dollars from me. Fuck them in their wide dirty whore vaginas. Who wants to follow that comment?

I couldn't disagree more. Especially when it comes to the statement that it's "COD4 downgraded". The grenades are much less powerful and cannot be chucked half way across a map like in modern combat. IMHO this is and of itself is a huge improvement. The artillery is vastly superior to the flakey air strikes that we now are forced to endure. Assists now reflect the amount of damage you did to the target before someone else finished it. This is also a huge improvement over getting 2 points for putting a guy into last stand only to have timmy mcasshat snipe him out from under you. As for the maps, again I completely disagree. These maps all have a TON of places to whole up and camp if that's your style. They are much more intricate than modern combat and the look of them falls right in line with what one would think a depressed war torn environment should. I respect your opinion Jeep but think you're making a bad snap judgement of this title. Honestly if people didn't know that Treyarch was behind this one, you'd never know it. Treyarch being involved is simply giving Halo fanboys a reason to bash a great franchise.

@Azure, what do Halo fanboys have to do with this blog? There was absolutely no mention of, or comparison to Halo anywhere here until you brought it up.

I hope that wasn't a slam on me calling me a halo fan boy considering I have over 200+ hours more play time in COD4 than H3.

No let me specify, it was no directed at any one person. It's just what I have been hearing in the beta lobbies as of late. Again it's no directed at anyone.

Exactly why I WON'T be picking up COD5. It's COD4 with shittier weapons.

@Azure. Opinion noted. However I would have to strongly disagree with you on several points. Grenades - I can chuck them across the map easily. Especially if they are the Tank Splitters. The damage from them seemed meh, until I realized that without 3xFrag and Martydom as perks.. the scope of damage from frags won't be known. Artillery - Is going to be tweaked. It's duration is too long, and it's accuracy is poor. I expect this to be one of the first things they modify - mostly because I love it and after getting 14 kills on one of them,.... I know it won't stay. Assists - Not a large deal for me, but I can understand your frusteration. Other statements you made peg you as a sniper/camper. As a run and gunner, getting 2 points for winging a guy running across the map doesn't matter much to me. The Maps look fine. The maps have lots of cubby holes... that is not my complaint. The maps are full of shredded debris that your character cannot recognize as less than a foot tall and won't step over. I average about 10 times per match getting hung up on things. "Honestly if people didn't know that Treyarch was behind this one, you'd never know it. " - Oh yes I would. The maps are the same as COD3. Same issue with debris. I could have pegged this as Treyarch my first load in. "Treyarch being involved is simply giving Halo fanboys a reason to bash a great franchise. " WTF? First I heard of this and I was leveling up 4 tags on the beta this weekend. To each his own. I won't be picking it up. I am sticking with 4, waiting out 6 with Gears/Fable and a few other titles.

I disagree with you. It is still better than 99% of the shooters released on the 360 and I think they did a fine job with this game. This is NOT COD3 by any stretch. I have played as much COD4 as anyone and it is probably the best console shooter I have played to date but I still cannot wait fo COD:WW to be released. I have yet to get hung up on anything on the map much less "10 times per match" so that is an odd criticism.

Beyond the lobby system and game types, I find it hard to do a fair comparison between cod4 and the cod5 beta. The weapons are from different eras and in real life, I don't think anyone is going to chose a WWII weapon over a modern one. Do I miss the red dot, hell yes. Being older, I have a harder time with iron sights against the young people. I did get caught up on things in the beginning, but I did the same thing when I first started playing cod4. As for maps having focal points, I find both games do the same thing. And in both, I try to stay around the perimeter. I think that if you like Military Shooters, you may like this version. But it is not cod4.

So the big complaint I am seeing is that it isn't COD4...well no shit. Did people think it would be? This is a WWII shooter which changes the dynamic completely. I would prefer COD6, but this is a solid title that will give me plenty of nights online with my friends and that is more than I can say about most shooters being released lately. I also like the WWII genre so my appreciation for this title may be a notch higher from the get go than someone who is more into modern warfare. Just my thoughts.
