First of all, the NPCs didn't change their conversations when certain things happened. For instance, I aquired Fawkes as a companion. Fawkes is a Super Mutant, andSuper Mutants are one of the main enemies of the game. Fawkes, however, is a good guy. In fact, you have to be of good karma to aquire him. Okay. My problem is that I could walk into any town and no one bats an eye at Fawkes. Including the people who hate muties: if you play the game, the groups called Reilley's Rangers and the Brotherhood of Steel don't even seem to notice that you waltz in with someone they should be thinking of as the enemy. These are supposed to be shoot first, ask questions later types. Another example: there is a cult that worships a live atom bomb that is in the middle of the town, I diffued it (thereby desecrating their major idol) and nothing changed long term with the cult. No mention of it. Like it never happened. huh?
Second: the ending. The ending was supposed to be very different depending on what you did in the game, frankly I didn't get that impression. It said that I was great and wonderful and I sacrificed myself for the betterment of humanity. meh. I did a ton of fricking side quests: no mention of saving megaton, enriching cultural pursuits across the wasteland, or even obliterating the slaver city. It was like it never mattered to the ending of the game.
Third: the last combat mission. You tag behind a super robot that does allt eh fighting for you. I think I nailed one guy, and it was pretty much impossible with the robot (Liberty Prime) blasting through everything like a plasma rifle through butter. I would have much preferred my and Lyon's Pride having to run the gauntlet all on our own... it would have had so much more emotional impact.
Fourth: this may sound stupid, but in the final epilogue, the announcer talks about how you learned about certain traits and it shows a picture of people that you meet along the way, people who presumably embody those traits. For Dr. Li, it said "compassion". Dr. Li was many things, but compassionate? no not at all. It was like the guy who put faces to the words never played the game.
Fifth: the THOSE! side quest. It is by far and away out of synch with the difficulty of the game. You get it rather early on, but it's way too difficult at that time. They just pooched the difficulty on that one. no biggie.
Sixth: some of the skills/perks seem to be utterly worthless. Speech, barter (Charisma)? Impartial mediation? Child at Heart? Nerd Rage? You kidding me?
All of this, but I still love the every loving bejeezuz out of this game. So, what do you lads and lasses think of Fallout 3? Am I on the ball ont his?
