Shared on Tue, 12/09/2008 - 15:22I'm not a big fan of my job. I don't find it particularly challenging and I don't get paid enough to sit here and pick my nose, let alone work for 8 hours. That said, I do work and I've raised the overall revenues by 20%-25% in 2 hears. That's not the point though - just a little tidbit in my defense.
Today I'm feeling a little pissy at the businesses that I rtry to benefit. No matter how hard I work on a project, no matter how much my organization spends on their behalf these people always have something to whine about. I was at work for 45 mintues today and I was jumped by a call from an angry business owner. We had a promotion last Sunday and because she was not part of a certainaspect of it she was mad at me and felt that she didn't really have any benfefit. doesn't matter that we footed the bill to promote on the web, in the newspaper and television and that I wrote the releases for however many other publicaions and did half a dozen interviews at odd hours of the day.
These are the same people who never show up att any meetings, never serve on any boards or committees and have no input at all. This chick's business didn't fit the profile of ths certain aspect of the promotion - and even if it did, I was full with participants from previous years.
If this was my businesses I could simply tell people to blow me. Since my ckecks have someone else's name on them though I have to sit here and apologize and reason with people that I don't give 2 shits about. And of course none of it is their fault for not responding to the emails/newsletter etc. It's not their fault that they didn't return calls or make half a fucking attempt to get involved. I can't relaly bring any of that up though because I need to kiss ass to keep the peace and maintain their measly membership dues.
My lesson in all of this - lower expectations. The less you do, the less people can be disappointed with. If I didn't start certain things then no one would ever know any better. that goes with constructive comments around this place too. I keep my mouth shut at board meetings now since suggestions mean new job responsibilities.
Im sure everyone has momments or days or weeks at work that they're not thrilled with. This is mine for today. Thanks for letting me bitch to you. Enjoy the rest of your tuesday.
