On Thursday I was headed to my parents house when we (New Hampshire and the upper north east) got hit by a wonderful ice storm. My parents house lost power Thursday night. And when one loses power you lose electricity, heat, and hot water. When I left my parents today they still didn't have power. Well we tried to stay there Thursday night and Friday night and then on Saturday night we stayed at my brother and sister-in-laws house because they had a fire place that works. My parents have a pellet stove but those have to be ignited by electricity which we didn't have. At my brother and sister in law's house my parents slept downstairs by the fireplace and the rest of us slept upstairs. It was FREEZING. Then when we went to my parents house after church it was 40 degrees in their house.
Luckily a church member had a generator for us to use and we hooked it up and the pellet stove has been running and they are supposed to have hot water now as well. The most frustrating part of the whole thing was that the safety center next to us had lights because they have a massive generator. Then their power came on and it was all good for them. But apparently the line is between our property and their's and we are on the next town over's grid. So until the next town over got power we didn't have power even though we could look out our windows and see houses within throwing distance with power.
-sighs-
And, I have to mention, that all of NH was under a state of emergency. Over 22,000 people were out of power and shelters were set up all over. The problem was so big that the state alone could not handle it so they called in the Canadians. I know, I know....but I truly have to thank them for coming in and helping. There were covoys of trucks coming in to help get power up and running again and it was and is greatly appreciated. I am finally warm and can enjoy a long, long HOT shower. I can't wait. -shivers with anticipation-
So I should be back on tonight but definately tomorrow. Can't wait to see you again. Have missed all of you guys.
