For the uninitiated, hot power yoga is a type of yoga where you are in a room that is 90 degrees. No humidity though. And well, then you do yoga. now I understand on this site that is mostly inhabited by a bunch of Guy's guys" this may seem like a stupid, hippie BS type of exercise, but it can be pretty intense. The power part of hot power yoga means it's more into strength training than stretching. Lots of holding in the plank position, or holding lunges. Balance is important too. I learned I have none. So ya, today I am a bit sore all over, nothing strained, or hurt. Just that comfy "yup, I did do a strength training regimen" feeling. Tummy, arms, legs, back all worked out in a relaxing warm environment. And this winter I need warm.
A friend of mine at work is into yoga in a bigger way, she got certified to teach. She said Robert Downey Jr. was at her one of her hot yoga classes when she was in Montreal. His bodyguard had to leave: couldn't handle it! So it's a workout and if anyone wants to try something new, I heartily recommend it.
I forgot how much I love the strength training aspect of a workout. Back in tha day I used to be pretty good at weights. If anyone is looking for a gym, and you live or work downtown anywhere, check out local hotels. I used to work out at the Delta in downtown Ottawa. It was cheap compared to a gym membership, there is towel service, a sauna hot tub, pool, cardio equipment and weights. Best part: no lineups.
So, the challenge this year is to maintain a realistic workout schedule. To mean that means working out 4 times a week. 3 days of cardio, one day of yoga. What about you guys and gals? Ever taken anything "alternative" like yoga, pilates or whatnot? If not, why not? Do you workout?
