Chewbacca Noises... and Chantix

New avatar!

Husband has been keeping me busy with strange tasks on my journey to quit smoking.  So far so good.  Started the Chantix last Friday.  Yesterday only smoke a few... today, NONE so far.  :)  I've broken my habit down and am quitting using a combo method.

1. Chantix - just for the dreams man.  Holy crap they are awesome, and real, and scary like SAW one minute then it's My Little Ponies barfing peppermints onto a pile of zombies the next.  So vivid.  I am seriously considering turning my Chantix dream diary into a comic or something... there's a storyline in there somewhere.

2. Decrease locations - Started off with no more car smoking, then no more work smoking, now I am down to home smoking.  That balcony is so tempting!  But sinceI have marked these areas a no smoking... and have none left to go to (at least mentally) once I nix home smoking on my quit date (Friday)... it seems to work.

3. Comfort - The smokes I am taking I make it as uncomfortable as possible.  No jacket in the cold, using my right hand instead of my left, using matches instead of a lighter, holding the ciggy strangely.

4. Dopamine Alternates - Apparently Chantix works by filling the nic receptors in your brain and changing your dopamine release into a steady low dose (instead of the Doplosion you get when you smoke).  Because of this.... I'm like a zombie.  Not really laughing, smiling... or much.  Husband has suggested that we increase other Dopamine activities.... yeah... Google that one. :)

Husband has me googling or YouTubing funny crap daily to keep me laughing and distracted.  Today's keep me laughing Search was for Chewbacca noises.  YouTube is a mountain of these!  The one where the Soldier gets tasers and releases the Wookie is shat-tastic!  Personal fav I also found on a Twitter page....

I could embed it.  I should embed it.  But .. meh.. just copy and paste folks... it's worth it to hear the guy giggle about 4 seconds in.

The Art of Hiding a Fart:

You are on the bus when you suddenly realize ...
You need to fart.
The music is really loud,
So you time your farts with the beat.
After a couple of songs,
You start to feel better as you approach your stop.
As you are leaving the bus,
People are really staring you down,
And that's when you realize,
You have been listening to your iPod.

good job, jeepy! I also quit a looooong time ago. Hasn't everyone? I used the torture method very similar to yours, but I had no drugs to help me. :( Don't forget brushing your teeth after you eat. The discomfort thing is good, too. I did some of that stuff. Good luck Friday!

Most people don't quit because they are afraid of getting cancer, anymore than people diet because they are afraid of getting obese. The stuff that sneaks up on you is almost impossible to guard against, no matter how much scientific evidence points to an outcome that is less than pleasant. You are quitting for reasons that are easily identifiable, which is the smart. Good Luck! pH

JeepC What works for some, may not work for others, I was just giving an incentive to add to your list. The main thing is that you are going to quit! You may backslide or even start back up again, but you will quit, eventually. I wouldn't even have wasted my time on trying to convince someone that doesn't want to quit, won't work. fartherfalcon4

I hate to be a wet blanket but be careful with Chantix. I lost my step-father because of the warnings set out but the maker of the pill. http://www.cnbc.com/id/22727360/

You know I am a huge proponent of Chantix. Its been 16 months for me. I think that it is a miracle drug and everyones insurance should cover the cost. The dreams are messed up, but always eat before taking the pill I got terrible cramps if I didnt eat before taking my pill.

JeepC, Have an incentive No. 5 for you. It worked for my wife. She was going to nursing school at the time in New Orleans. There was building she had to go to take a class in. In this building there was a long hallway with a long cabinet. On top of the cabinets were jars of lungs, starting with the clean pink ones of non-smokers and ending with the black ones of life-time smokers. Seeing as she was still breathing, she was somewhere along that line at a lighter shade. She decided right there and then that she would quit and she did with that mental picture in her mind and the Nicoderm patches. That's been more than 15 years now, and we are both glad for it...So are our grandchildren... You have made the right decision. I know it's hard, but you can do it. I quit in '84, cold turkey, hurt my neck and laying in the hospital bed, unable to see even the tv, my wife asked if I wanted a cig, (you could smoke in hospitals at the time, lol) I said no thanks, didn't feel like having ashes falling back on my face, or God forbid, have a coughing fit... Good Luck fartherfalcon4

@fartherfalcon4 Well... let me surprise you. Black lungs don't scare me. Neither does all the other medical BS that people attribute 100% to smoking but really is more affected by your genetics and your diet. All 4 of my grandparents lived long long lives... and all them smoked for at least 50 years - one, my grandmother was a Camel cigarette girl... smoke from age 14 to her 80's when she finally died... of a stroke... not smoking related. So... my doctor in her infinite wisdom, put it to me another way. Personalized the reasons for me. Talked about travel, inconvenience, my teeth, my sleep habits. All small things, all things you won't find on the side of the ciggy box... but more important to me than black lungs and cancer. Plus I made a deal with the hubby that I can use my cig money for other things... like a trip to the 2009 LAN! :)

Nice work Jeep and it sounds like an awesome plan you have too. Did you read about it somewhere or did you get help from a nicotine cessation specialist? I like when people put together their quit stories because you quickly realize that just like we all loved smoking for our own personal reasons, we all quit for different ones, and ways too. I quit before Chantix and I'm jealous of the dreams.

@FreynApThyr - no help on the plan. I knew I needed meds cause Zyban is what helped before. I just figured out my triggers and habits... and slowly removed them. I hate quit stories.... can't really explain why.. but I do.
