My Favorite Games - Commodore 64

After the Atari 2600, the next system I played was the Commodore 64.  My cousins had one and we played on it all the time.  I eventually got one for Christmas when I was 8.  I soon learned some BASIC programmming and had a pretty good sized collection of games.  Of them, these are the ones I most fondly remember:
1.  Mail Order Monsters  -  It is basically a rpg/action game where you build your own monsters and battle them.  I guess in retrospect, it was sort of like Pokemon without anime and a huge following.  You could start with spiders, a lion-creature, t-rex, or even a giant wasp.  You got to build their attributes and give them weapons and armor.  You were able to save your creatures to disk and play them at a friend's house.  The two player game was a blast.
2. Archon - Probably most similar to battle chess.  However, it is much better.  When you attempt to take a square on the game board, your pawns battled.  Different ones had different abilities and they were all mythilogical creatures.  I liked the Phoenix and the unicorns the best.
3. Pirates! - This game has a huge following and I could never do it justice as it had too much depth for me to get into here.  You were a pirate and sailed your ship looking for money.  You got into naval battles and swordfights, with a rpg-style storyline.
4. Raid Over Moscow - I don't know what it was about this game, but it was just fun.  You start off trying to take your ship from the hangar in a spacestation.  This is harder than it sounds, as you could easily crash into the walls or other ships.  Once you made it out, you tried to take out missle sites in Russia.  It started off in a isometric view similar to Zaxxon, and when you made it to the main base, you were a soldier firing mortars at the base.  Some parts would fall off and crush soldiers if you hit them right, which made for some memorable gaming.
5. Bruce Lee - Bruce Lee and a Sumo guy navigating an elaborate maze.  Bruce Lee could punch or do a flying kick.  Sumo guy did the same, and could yell.   Fun in single player, but two players was better if the other guy didn't decide to fight you.
6. Summer Games - Diving, pole vault, gymnastics, and swimming in the olympics.  There were several sequels, which were all pretty good, but the diving and pole vaulting were the two games I liked the most in this one.
7. Ultima III - III and IV were a really deep set of RPGs.  The Commodore 64 was exceptionally good at these types of games.
8. Last Ninja - Isometric view of a ninja navigating a series of courtyards and jumping on rocks to cross rivers.  You got a variety of weapons and some of the enemies required a great deal of skill to beat.
9. Yie-Ar Kung Fu - This is an arcade port, but an excellent one.  You are a karate master and could literally jump 30 feet in the air.  Your opponents were named for their weapons and each brought an entirely different style.  Fan and chain were particularly annoying for me because of their long reach.
10. Jumpman - You are a man that runs through a side scroller collecting rings.  Sometimes a ring will cause a piece of the platform to disappear.  Oh yeah, there's a bullet or two flying across the screen to kill you along with some various enemies, depending on the stage.  There was a sequel with Jr, but it was pretty much identical, just with different stages.  You could set the speed of your guy, so it could get very interesting at high speeds.

Others that almost made this list:
Lode Runner
Gyruss
Ms. Pacman
Pitstop
The Movie Monster Game
Raid on Bungeling Bay
Pool Of Radiance

I really miss my Sega Saturn. It had some really great games. X-Men: Children of the Atom, Nights, Dragon Force, Area 51, Virtua Cop, Independance Day. The Sega Genesis was also pretty awesome. I really want that new Ultimate Genesis Collection.
