He stated he liked it not for the US to do well in it, but for the more pure, fundamental form of baseball. He argued that the other teams in the classic play a better brand of baseball and that the US has gotten sold on power and flash, and that the US has forgotten how the game should be played. The response was a tirade of how he's an idiot, to go to Japan, GTFO, etc.
I happen to agree with the fact that many of the fundamentals have disappeared from many of the sports because athletes have become such better that they can rely on talent alone. Many times they may never have to be as fundamentally sound due to the fact they can dominate at such a young age. Why does this idea of the pampered US athlete apply to baskeball and not other sports?
I just get sick of "some" attitudes that prevail that the US kicks ass for the sake of kicking ass. This applies to so many areas beyond sports as well. It has become too much the norm that people don't have to take responsibility for their actions... and its a wonder many countries have an negative attitude towards the US. Have you seen the pompousness/ignorance of many? Maybe the dumbest are just the loudest, but its scary... then again, maybe I'm just getting old. I'll still be the first one to root for the United States in everything, but it will be in hopes they do the best, not just that they are the best.
