This is what happens.....

I know that times are tough for many people these days.   Pay cuts, layoffs, rising prices, etc.  I am much more aware of it since I am buying my own groceries and paying my own rent.  And I know people that are having problems financially.  Very sad.  I will not lose my job, fortunately.  As long as I behave myself and don't break any rules, I'll be ok.  And that leads into what is really on my mind.  I work for the state of North Carolina.  When I was a federal employee, getting laid off or fired was unheard of.  People seemed to be able to do whatever they liked, or not do anything at all, and they still got paid.  I guess that's ok, if that's the way you roll.  But, now, the state is different.  I guess.  We have a fairly new director.  He is an MD, tall, cute, and pretty young.  He tells everyone "call me Ian".  He smiles and remembers your name and always asks how you are.  Now, the mistake is, that we all believed him to be a nice, easy to get along with kinda guy.  NOT!!  He is extremely tough, and doesn't hesitate to remedy a bad situation, if it is within his power to do so.  So, this is the story...

There is a nurse in my clinic that is not exactly perfect, to put it mildly.  She cuts corners, makes mistakes, and much more.  No one likes her cuz she always dominates the conversation, and it is always about her.  Always ranting.  Never happy.  Well, she has been written up a few times.  The last time it came to the attention of our friendly director, Ian.  Technically, what she did is against the law.  Yeh, but it is a common practice.  She charted ahead.  That means, she documented something that hadn't happened yet.  Not only that, she was totally wrong about what did happen.  And the nurse that discovered this wrote her up.  And what did our nice guy director, Ian, tell our nurse manager to do?  Yikes!  I don't even like this girl, and I feel soooo bad about this.  Yep. He said, the next time she does something like this, fire her on the spot and escort her out of the building.  Puts the fear of God into a person, dontcha think?  Even tho she is so disliked by everyone, no one would wish that kind of dismissal on her.  Well, I wouldn't, anyways.  And, how do I know about this?  Because, I am the quiet, well behaved nurse that you can tell anything to and it will not go anywhere.  Well, yeh, it is now on the internet.  But, the nurse is un-named, and I feel like I haven't told a soul that would recognize this person.  But, it also is not a secret.  And it is scarey, and not good for morale.  So, I just wanted to write about it.   And all I can say is, Wow!

"He is extremely tough, and doesn't hesitate to remedy a bad situation, if it is within his power to do so." Sounds like a great boss to work for, if you are a great employee... I wouldn't worry if I were you. You already know that he isn't a happy go lucky guy, and you sound like a make no waves kind of person Who knows, he might make your workplace more pleasant and easy to work in if he cleans hours and removes the weak links. It may not be pleasant, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be done. It's his job.

It sounds like this kind of "common practice" could endanger someones life. Not something to be trifled with! So "technically" I would hold her totally accountable. I'm sorry, but I have little sympathy when it comes to my life or the lives of my loved ones. I want to trust the people who's hands i put my life into. As someone who has to use the services of the medical field more often than I'd like...she should have been fired. Charting ahead? What, she knows the future? She could kill someone doing stuff like that. If she'd have killed someone you loved, would you still feel bad for her? She better not get more than one more chance. She's lucky, imo, and better realize it. In a field that can cost a person life and limb, I could care less if a person is likeable. Incompetent or lazy...should be fired on the spot. Period. No tolerance. One mistake is all it takes to kill a person. She's lucky and I don't feel the first bit sorry for her. Lazy nurses should be eliminated. Healthcare an't a game. We only get one life in the real world. I had a stupid nurse tell me that I didn't know what I was going through and i had to check out of the hospital and go to the emergency room to get proper treatment once. I also called the hospital administrator at 2 am and told them about it and let them know that if they didn't aright the situation, I'd alert the media to their incompetence. Dont' mess with people's health and life. It's not just a job, not on our side of the fence. I am glad the woman got cited.
