Shared on Fri, 06/12/2009 - 18:26I was late nurse last night. Yeh, we are all having to do that once a week now that they require 2 nurses to stay to the bitter end. Well, it is safer, just in case. If you are alone with a patient and something goes incredibly wrong, you are on your own. Call a code, that's all you can do. So, I am getting more and more OT when they are cutting back. Go figure.
So I was doing my usual thing yesterday morning, checking emails, packing my lunch, taking a shower and getting ready for work. You know, the usual. I realized my time was getting tight so I got the heck out of the house and drove to the park & ride. WTF? Not one space left! Not one! So, I had to go to the next one and, guess what!!!!! Yep, I watched the bus drive away. Crap. No problem. I just drove to work and parked in the deck. I have never been caught before, right? Well, know this before I go on. The university owns all the parking decks, lots, etc. on campus. They charge $6 a day, which would be $30 a week if they even let us park there. I don't even know how much it is once you actually get parking privileges. I don't want to know. Now, if the hospital owned the decks, there is a chance they might cut you some slack, but.....that's not the case.
I had to stay until 7:00, so I was actually glad I had driven. Busses come less often after 7:00 or so. I was happy to just get in the old car and go straight home. I'll pay the $6, no problem. Again, WTF?????? I got a ticket!!! Yep, right there on my windshield. Twenty Five Bucks!!! So, what do I get for working late? I get to pay $31 to park for the day. Can I appeal? Sure, but I will lose. The university does not consider missing your bus and risking being late for work a reason to use their parking deck, even tho you still pay the same as every one else. End of rant, such as it is.
