Madoff sentenced to 150 years

So to recap, Dante Stalworth parties all night, goes out in his Bently and then then smears some poor schmuck all over asphalt with a BAC 1.5x the legal limit and gets 30 days in jail.  Madoff screws some people out of some money and gets 150 years.

I know the situations are more complicated than the above two sentences present, but damn...that's fucked up.

The people I feel bad for in the Madoff case are those who were unfortunate enough to have had the managers of their pension funds invest in the scheme as they had no control over that money. If there really is such a law in Florida, one would think it would be unconstitutional. Almost reminds me of debtors' prisons in 18 century England.

One forgets the loss of a loved one more quickly than the loss of a farm... What do you value most?

It isn't what you do, but how much money you have...had... Maybe it's who you know. But rarely is it fair.

if i was the judge in Dantes case, he would be doing hard time, same goes for anyone who commits vehicular homicide while under the influence of any substance. There is just no excuse, for someone of his caliber to NOT have a designated driver, or to atleast call himself a friggin limo

Stalworth Killed 1 guy, Madroff destroyed the lives of thousands of people. both should have received 150 years IMO.

Florida has a stupid law that allows for financial compensation for the victims, if they agree to it. If a financial settlement is reached, the criminal can get a reduced sentence.

Sounds like a really stupid law...allows the rich to buy their way out while we store poor people in prison. I don't feel really bad for the "thousands of people" Madoff screwed. Like Enron stock holders, they were stupid and greedy. If you don't know what you are doing with your money, put it in a bank and earn simple interest. Diversify. And repeated returns double or triple the market average should make you very suspicious.
