The second I walked in our house I said "what's that smell? Something is burning." Dean said, "I don't smell anything." Clearly there was something wrong with his nose because something was fucking burning. I walked around the entire house and couldn't find anything wrong - until I noticed the power was out in the basement. Once we dealt with the breakers the source of the smell became obvious. Smoke ribboned out of the power center in the fish tank.
I said to Dean, "I don't care how much it costs, get that fucking thing out of my house." His eyes lit up in joy. The plug for the protein skimmer was melted into the power center, WTF. Well, 2 weeks later, a ghetto interim power solution and now some networking we have a fully monitorable fish-tank from any remote location. The replacement power center connects into a wireless bridge and sends and XML file that an app on his iphone can pick up. If the temperature gets to high, he'll get an alert email. Ph too low? Another email. So unnecessary and "technology for the sake of technology." *Sigh* I regret my "I don't care how much it costs" comment....I just didn't want my goddamn house to burn down and Dean has this way of thinking that broken things fix themselves if you just ignore them long enough...
Cool tech #2 - I got Dean a new pair of running shoes for his birthday and couldn't help but get myself a pair too. Since we've got iPhones with the built in Nike+ application we got a couple of sensors for $20 to go in the shoes to see how that program works. It's actually pretty cool. I *hope* this is a motivational tool. I'm like a winded turtle out there, but it's cool to actually SEE what you did and hopefully watch it improve. I read an article in Wired a few weeks ago about it. The Nike people said their data indicates that if you can sync 5 runs, you're hooked. We'll see. I'm fucking sore from my 2 little 2.5 mile runs already. How sad! lol.
My run from today.
