My Flu shot.

Influenza is up there with some of the top preventable reasons for death. Mostly old people and the chronically ill die from it. But if you've had the flu, you know that shit will knock you out for a week. So - go get your flu shot! Go to your work's sponsored event, go to your doctor, go to the grocery store clinic  - whatever. I got my flu shot at MinuteClinic and got a $100 coupon book for CVS - woot! (I also work there and the million+ flu shots we provide each year pay my salary!) So you're extra special if you support my company. =)

It takes two weeks for the vaccine to protect you and the season will start to peak in November - so go get stuck bitches.

PSA out.

PS - I'm talking about good ole' seasonal flu, not h1n1. The vaccine for that will be available October-ish, and likely funded by Uncle Sam for people at risk.

Definitely getting a flu shot, but still not sure about the H1N1 vaccine.

Now Im one of the sceptics out there. I've heard, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, that there are 10's of thousands of variations of the flu. A flu shot protects for about 5. Due to production times, doctors pick which strains they think might hit months in advance. After years of flu shots you may have built up immunity to maybe 1% of flu strains. Pass.

Ryan - You're partially right, partially wrong. The scientists that develop the vaccine are guessing each year at what strains are going to cause the flu and that's what goes into the vaccine. Sometimes they're right, partially right, or just straight wrong. We don't know until after flu season gets going and the CDC gets to studying. However - even a vaccine that is matched improperly can offer protection. You might not get *as* sick. For someone with a poor immune system, that could be the difference between serious illness/death or not. So if you're not going to get your flu shot - at least wash your hands a lot and keep your germs to yourself. ;)

I am encouraging my wife to get one and the the H1N1 later. She is an 3rd grade teacher and a lot of her kids are immigrants that routinely travel south of the border..Plus with our twins at home, I want to do what we can to hopefully protect them as well.
