Poor little car

It all started after my last road trip.  It was a short trip, only 3 days, but I put mucho miles on the poor little car.  When I got home, I started to notice this funny pull to the left.  When the car was just rolling, it would go left, left, left, like it was moving with the wheel.  Hmmmm.  And the steering was getting very hard to control at high speeds.  Time to call the auto repair shop.  Where I now live I am very close to a couple of bus lines, so I figured out how to get the car at the shop, take the bus to work, and it was all good.  When I called this afternoon to find out just what that jerky steering wheel meant, he told my, oh, you just need a couple new tires.  w00t!!!!!  I was very happy with that.  Now, remember, this car is 12 years old and has never had any major work done on it.  Hasn't needed it.  So, he put me on hold for a minute, came back, and told me the rest of the story.  He told me what else I needed, and I said "explain".  So, the thingees that protect the whachamacallits so the grease doesn't leak out and dirt and stones get in and go round and round and all over the place, are shot.  One is completely dead, the other almost.  Yikes!  His explanation was extremely good.  I understood what he meant......at the time.  Well, the $200+ bill took a giant leap to $700+, prolly close to $800, including an oil change.  Yikes!

Now one thing men are good for is taking care of that sort of thing.  But I'm a big girl, and I got this done all by my lonesome.    I really don't think the nice man was trying to rip me off cuz, after all, the car is OLD!!  So, I get the car back either tomorrow after work, or the next morning.  Good thing, cuz I am flying out of here for the weekend, and I need a car to get to the airport!  Funny, that is almost the exact same amount of my bonus this year after taxes.  Blah!  What a way to spend it!

A good site to see if it's a ripoff or not (at least a ballpark figure): http://repairpal.com/

Sounds like cv joints, if your car made it 12 years without needing new ones consider yourself lucky.
