My belief is that our current form of govt. is way to corrupt and serious changes need to be made. When I say our current form of govt., I mean the Bush and Obama alike. Congress has way to many companies pouring money into the politicians pockets. Come on, the Congressmen and Senators are paid chump change in the grand scheme of things. The people do not want these jobs for the pay, they want them for the power and millions of dollars that are given to them from special interest groups. As long as our govt. is run in this manner the common man is going to be screwed. BTW "Common Man" means about 95% of the country, the other 5% is the special interests!

Pity that so many have no clue just how monumentally fucked the Bush Admin left this country. To expect it to be all fixed in 10 months? Insane.

You don't fix debt and economy by going into even deeper debt.

We're not in bad shape. I haven't heard anything bad from MSNBC or CNN since Obama was elected. Obama Brought us "back from the brink last month." - Obama If you think this is sour grapes, I've got some carbon credits for you to buy.

"You don't fix debt and economy by going into even deeper debt." Actually, that's pretty much how every economic recession and depression has been alleviated from a national fiduciary perspective. But why be right when you can be angry? :D

Soup - so what should have been done? Many economists have stated that the initial Stimulus was in fact far too SMALL. Should nothing had been done? Instead of circling the drain, this country would have gone straight down it - Depression. Yes, the Unemployment figures suck, unfortunately as we all should know, employment is the LAST thing to bounce back from a recession. No business owner with a brain is going to hire anyone until they are sure the economy is back on track. It's gonna take time. Don't think for a second I'm not pissed off about the TARP abuses, Freaking Bonuses of Taxpayer Money? Are you fucking kidding me? These fuckers need to be drawn and quartered in a public square somewhere! And the GM Bailout was BULLSHIT. Anyway, sorry about the book - just tired of seeing all the pot shots at the current Admin as if this economy was fully their doing. To me it's like the Arsonists blaming the firefighters struggling to contain a fire that was started by someone else.

Well, to blame Bush entirely is complete bullshit as well. Not that I'm defending him, as he is responsible, but so is Congress. A Congress for his final (2) years that was majority Democratic, and didn't seem to mind rubber stamping Bush's spending and adding their own pork to his already porked out bills. This entire government, Democrats and Republicans is corrupt, and blaming "the last guy" for all our woes is complete BS. I blame both parties.

"But why be right when you can be angry?" Honestly, I'm not angry. I'm disappointed in our government and our voters. Disappointed that our Government is corrupt and nothing has changed even though the Democrats are in power in the Legislative and Executive branches. Disappointed that the voters of this country continue to vote for one party or the other, when both parties suck balls and aren't much different from the other when it comes to spending money. Mad? Nope. More like a complete feeling of despair, as this country continues to rot from the inside. As long as we continue to vote one party or the other, this country will continue to decline.

I have to say that I find it strange that so many think the '06 Democrat takeover of Congress is a big factor in the collapse. That takeover was a 31 seat majority in the House and a 49-49 seat TIE in the Senate. Flash forward to today where the Dems have a HUGE majority in the House, and 59 seats in the Senate, and yet STILL can't get shit passed. So we're to believe a WEAKER Democratic majority than today was able to push around a REPUBLICAN president, when these a-holes can't get shit done NOW when they have a bigger majority and a Democrat in the White House? Please. I'm also disappointed in the country. Disappointed in what seems to be a lack of understanding of the depth of the problem we face. A lack of understanding that no matter who won the '08 election, it is going to take a very VERY long time for us to get out of this shithole. So let's assume that McCain had won. Please explain how the current situation would be any better than it is now? No stimulus? Great - so a few hundred thousand more folks would be in line at the unemployment office. No GM Bailout? Add more thousands. I have not heard from any detractors what should have been done differently to stop the bleeding any more quickly than Obama has been able to accomplish. From my point of view he's done pretty damn well considering the hand he was dealt. Does it mean I'm thrilled with every one of his moves? Hell no... but all I know is we keep hearing that there are promising signs out there. And that's a HELL of a lot better than what we were being told a year ago....

Our political system is in need of a serious enema. When it boils down to a politician taking buyouts and bribes from major corps (any and all) just to stay in office compared to actually listening and acting on the voters concerns, something needs to change, drastically. Flobber makes some great points. This is why I just stopped voting. Nothing is going to change either way I vote. It has become a waste of my time and effort. And don't tell me that I don't have a right to bitch if I don't vote. When it boils down to "pick the lesser of two evils", count me out. Not like it'll matter much. Anyone remember 2001 with Florida? So sick of politics.

Well this Health care bill the current admin is trying to push through (gets closer with each shove) isn't going to be the cure for our country. I hate to see what happens if it does get passed.

Who said it was a factor in the collapse? It didn't matter whether the Republicans or Democrats were in control of Congress the past 8 years. BOTH douchebag parties were responsible for spending TONS of PORK. Yeah, the Democrats protested spending bills and what not when the Republicans were in charge, but they always tacked on enough "extras" to make sure they got a taste of all that cash.

Kwazy and Flobber...you are both right, but for the wrong reasons. The stimulus was "too small" or ineffective because it was not a stimulus. It didn't put people to work as the "shovel ready" projects were opposed in favor of wealth transfers and the opportunity to pork through numerous neglected liberal agendas, with very little economic stimulus attached. That is what they are calling for another one...because the first one was a fuck-up

Dastard: Sorry, but you are wrong. There is a TON of $ that has not yet flowed to the "Shovel Ready Projects" - How do I know? Because I work for a county government that will be receiving ARRA funding in the future. One of my duties is to work with departments to assist them in assuring that their accounting systems are in order because the requirements for ARRA reporting are the strictest EVER. The Fed is a BITCH to get $ out of anyway (at least in a timely manner) - And the ARRA funding is the Queen Bitch. It was never intended to be spent immediately.
