Subject says it all.  I'm going to be down the first week of March for a conference, and would like to know where to go, and just as importantly where NOT to go.  Dining, entertainment, etc.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Been there once. 1 year after Katrina. Only place we went was the French Quarter.

I was there about 2 years ago for a few days. We mostly hung around the french quarter and immediate surrounding area. One point of advice we picked up - spend all the time you want on Bourbon Street but don't go too far north. Once the number of bars per block gets sparse, turn around and head back south - once you cross a certain point you're in a very bad part of town. Have fun, New Orleans isn't just about Mardi Gras. I thought I was over my bar hopping days but the party atmosphere on Bourbon Street is enough to suck anybody in. Oh and if you're looking for the best goddamn dinner you'll ever eat, Emeril Lagasse owns two restaurants there, Emeril's and Nola. Both are amazing (and expensive, as you could imagine).

Ride the St. Charles Line trolley in the Garden District. Nice houses. Tour the Cabildo. Take a Ghost Walk. Have the white chocolate bread pudding in the Palace Cafe on Canal. Have coffee and beignets at the Cafe Du Monde in the French Quarter. Get some Aunt Sally's pralines, also in the French Quarter. There is a US Mint museum down there, too. Tour the Super Dome.
