Need help from PS3 owners.

So my dad is more and more serious about a PS3. He's asking me a bunch of questions. The general stuff I can answer, as far as features, etc. And I've read and heard a lot of opinions about the PS3. But he wants some feedback on actual performance. In particular, the non-gaming stuff (i.e. media, web browsing, etc.). He just wants to know if it functions well, if it runs at a decent speed, etc. I've never used or owned one, so I don't know. Can you guys give me your unbiased opinions? Thanks! -Book

* Web browsing is ok........use a keyboard and mouse not the controller. It's as fast as your internet is. * Media works good. I actually linked my iMac through it using Rivet, which allows me to stream any pictures, movies or music through my PS3 (or Xbox as well). * Blue Ray works like a blue ray player should. Might suggest an individual remote for the extra features, but works well with the controller. * Initial updates for the system out of the box seem like it takes forever.

I have a sony blu-ray player downstairs, granted its about a year and a half old, but my ps3 loads blu-rays in a fraction of the time. also with its wireless internet you can connect to things like BD Live and access more special features. it can be a little confusing at first, just because there is so much stuff. but my 2 year old spent 2 hours flinging food at the tv on the cloudy with a chance of meatballs bluray, it was a blast. I dont even know if I'll buy any games for it, we just use it for multimedia...

Thanks, guys. Any recommendations for games that don't involve shooting dudes in the face? He was very particular that he's not interested in any games that involve violence. But he is open to other kinds of games. What do you think?

Check out any of the Pixel Junk games book they are really good. Flower is a very cool game and very "new gamer" friendly. Little Big Planet is a gas especially if you or anyone else wants to play with him. Burnout Paradise can be had on the cheap and is obviously a fantastic racing game. Dunno if he likes baseball but MLB 09 the Show is supposed to be pretty great or get Tiger Woods if he's more into golf or whatever....

What BM said. Little Big Planet. Maybe Ratchet and Clank games, there's shooting stuff but it's more comical than anything. Flower is awesome. Anything Pixel Junk.
