Clans...

this is just my opinion but...

i think there are too many clans.

i resigned (amicably, i hope) from pcp but still belong to 2old2pwn. i've been with 2old2pwn the longest. it has good people in it and no drama.

however, i'm resigning from there as well. sorry, rogue!

the reason is i think 2old2play is a great place and we've begun to focus more on clans than on the site as a whole.

the public forums are not used nearly enough. instead of posting info on a new shooter or survival horror game there, it goes into a clan forum where no one else hears about it. or a blog.

blogs are another issue altogether. honestly, the majority of the blogs are not blogs but rather a topic that would be more well-suited in the proper public forum.

seriously, how many of us here actually know the other members? there are tons of people here that we don't even know exist because we're all hiding in our clans. it's like a huge community built up of many buildings. outside the building is a huge gorgeous public park. imagine central park in ny. now imagine it with only a few people strolling around in it while the streets of ny are empty because no one leaves their building. that's us!

maybe if there had been more social interaction between all the 2o2p members, the pcp situation may not have happened. maybe.

there's nothing wrong with clans, it'd just be nice for everyone to step out and see there's more to 2old2play than clans.

i'll be using the regular public forums from now on and i hope some of you will join me.

enjoy the park people!

@ chilligan - chill out. I was kinda thinking out loud. I can see your point of view and who said I wanted to hang out with people that want nothing to do with me? I also don't want to be part of any exclusive clans either. I just felt the forum might benefit from being more open. On second thoughts that would probably be a bad idea. @Yem - I may have misunderstood you, but are you saying you've monitored my forum posting habbitts? And I DO know how much posting goes on in the public forums, I read them most days and comment when I feel I have something to contribute.

Personally I can understand having "Clans" and them having there own "Forums" I couldn't understand why Members weren't supposed to game with other people outside of their "Clan" or play their "Game" with others outside of their "Clan" which ever the problem really was.

On your other point, it would be better if everyone here spent more time on the open forum, I'm sure there are a lot of people here that only know of a handful of other members. Maybe more emphasis on "Community" Game nights and switch up the games, rotate around the six or so most popular ones.

Anyone here belong to any clubs, teams, assoc., societies, groups, etc... in Real Life. If so, why? Do you have a close group friends or just hang out with whomever you first come across when leaving your abode? Again, why? There is nothing wrong with clans. There is also nothing wrong with the people who stay inside them. Not everyone is comfortable in large groups, they are more comfortable in smaller gatherings. This is not a bad thing, it is RL. Nobody on this site knows or games with all the other site members. Just like they don't know or hang out with everone in RL.

clans are exclusive. hence: no one can visit. maybe if non-members would be allowed in to see what's goin on but not to post unless they're a member would be a better policy?

I used to think there were too many clans, but the interconnectedness of multiple clans has allowed me to meet friends of friends. For example, I am a member of the 2old2play clan who introduced me to BC, who then introduced me to guys from profanity, who then introduced me to people from AOW. Starting a chromehounds clan led me to meet an entire new group of people with like interests who in turn came from other clans. Their friends gamed with us, those who I thought were a fun time got friend requests. In the end, when I play COD I could end up playing with guys from PPC, AOW, PCP, 2old4duty, 2o2p, 2old2pwn, 2old2____ etc... I think there is a happy medium, and the clans help orient new people to the site in the beginning and then they can branch out into their other interests as they arise. The freedom to choose is what is offered here, equal results are not guaranteed.

I agree with Rau... and Lux. Rau is saying that If you do clans right (IMO) it means that you game, talk with lots of different people BUT Lux is talking about the interactions we have on the forum that is 202p. People stay in clan. I for one think that we could all do a better job of getting out of our clans more often. Postig in off topic or in game threads more often. I *think* I do an okay job at it. But yeah... why aren't there more?

people just randomly looking in on different clan forums = bad idea. clan forums are meant to be exclusive and in a sense private. Not for everyone to see. Part of the fun of being in a clan is bitching about stuff going on elsewhere and not having it privy to everyone on the site.

Lux, best of luck to you in what you are trying to find. It was good when we did get to play together. And thanks for the props on 2old2pwn. I do understand where you are coming form but have my own opinions on forums and clans. Kid

I agree with you and was thinking the same yesterday. Most of the forum posting here occurs within everyone's respective clans. I think a large part of the problem is that the clan forums are all locked. What is the reason for that anyway?

As an example - I have been here almost three years and only really know my clan mates. The clan forums are, in my opinion, causing unnecessary division due to the secretive nature of their locked forums.

I disagree. As a member who ventures out into the public forums a lot, I see all the things you say are only posted in clan forums. There is PLENTY of posting going on in the public forums

@redeye Have you not noticed the interclan fighting in the public forums and on people's blog comments? That's why clans forums are locked. For good reason. When two kids fight you don't put them in a small room and let them go at each other, you keep them apart. (and no, you can't force them to be friends) Most clans don't have one-clan-only rules, so there's nothing stopping you from accessing their forums. What I've never understood is people's interest in getting into places where they aren't wanted. Why would you want to hang out with people who don't want to have anything to do with you? Join the ones that are open and of interest to you and I guarantee there's more than enough for you to meet and befriend people. The forum locks are good, but for the most part they aren't keeping you out... you are. They give the forum OLs latitude to keep some area free from too much drama if they control it well by booting troublemakers. It also minimizes the drama that the overall site monitors would have to preside over if everything was wide open. They have enough to deal with in the public forums and from what I've seen do a great job of it as is. The OLs for the two clans I've chosen to be a member of also do a great job of this in their little fiefdoms (2o2pwn and 2o2resist) but are also very welcoming to people who are interested in joining. Why complain about clans that are exclusive. If you don't want that exclusivity, why would you want to get into them anyway?? But then, I never understood why the little girl was always trying to get into Calvin and Hobbes' He-Man Woman Hater's Club either....

Hey Lux-- I never even had a chance to play with you. I'll send you a FR to play MW2 since that is still my main game. I still don't think you should leave 2old2pwn, its about gaming not the postings.

I think people can still be in a clan and use the main forums. What happens though is they get into an argument with a troll or something and then they say "well hell I'll just stay in the clan forum".
