What I'm listening to:

The album Closer by Redhanded. It's pretty bad-ass. I like almost the entire album. Army Walk, Knowhere, In a Maze, and Scapegoat are probably my favorites.

What I'm watching:

Six Feet Under on Netflix...It's a bit older, but one I missed. I'm in the middle of season 2. Supposedly, critics loved this show. I *think* it's the same dude that created True Blood. You would think that would spell slam dunk...but I'm undecided right now. If I get distracted and start looking at my phone, it's not a good sign. I'm starting to wonder if shows need that 1 week lag in between episodes to build interest and anticipation. If you watched this one, what did you think?

What I'm reading:

Well, just read. Invisible Monster by Chuck Palahniuk. It was my book club's month three choice. It was...good, but I have to qualify that. I love this dude's style. There's a tempo to his writing. You almost fall over to each sentence. I don't know how to articulate it other than to say I love it. But the actual plot and story was just...eh. It was no Choke or Fight Club. More on par with Rant.

What I'm playing:

Monday Night Combat - XBL Arcade. I'm a total one-trick-pony with my Assassin bitch. I'm okay with that.

What are you listening to, watching, reading, and playing?

Listening to: A friend just turned me onto a band called As I Lay Dying - super hardcore stuff and their drummer is a beast! Watching: Just started season one of Bones and Nip/Tuck on Netflix. Both are very good, give them a try if you haven't seen them. Gave "Dead Like Me" a shot due to its high rating, but couldn't force ourselves to watch anything past the first episode. Reading: clan forum at 2o2p, not much outside of that. The last book I read was Stephen King's Tommyknockers last summer. Playing: Halo 3 of course! What did you expect me to say?!? :)

jonny - I also tried to watch Dead Like Me. In concept, it could have been brilliant. But it was way too PG and boring.

Six Feet Under is very different from True Blood even though Alan Ball is the main writer and creator on both. I loved SFU but it took me 3 seasons to really get into it. SFU is much more cerebral than TB and I find some episodes are slower than others. Stick with it and it'll pick up. The Series finale is the best finale I've ever seen. If you don't think you'll stick through it, just youtube the series finale, it's that good. Books : Im reading "Blink" and "How Soccer explains the World" , two very different books that both try to explain why things are the way they are. I find as I get older, I'm going more towards the non fictions stuff. Choke is on my top 5 Fiction written in the last 20 years list along with The Road. Both were made into movies but the books were so much better. If you are looking for new TV, check out Louie, (Louis C.K. new show, so much better than his stint at HBO a few years back) or Sherlock (a BBC retelling of Sherlock Holmes if he were to live in London now). Louis is a foul mouthed comedy which mixes his stand up and some short skits. Prolly my fav new show right now. Btw, you need to replace Caesar and be a regular on the podcast.

I loved six feet under. I didn't get to watch the last season, so I may have to jump on it on Netflix as well. Thanks for the reminder.

Midnighter - Blink was good. Way interesting. I HATED The Road though... Try Horns by Joe Hill. If you like Choke, you'd probably like this one too.

Your taste in media is very good. Six Feet Under - stuck with it thru the entire series. Since you're still in the middle of season 2, it's still a very good series. Later on, it starts to take itself too seriously. Claire bugs the ever loving shit out of me with her high-school know it all hipster liberal mannerisms. Nate remains cool, but his women troubles are tiresome. Brenda gets on my nerves with her aging hipster liberal attitude. I don't think you're at the point with the stepdad, but he gets on my nerves with his old hippie liberal attitude. Lili Taylor bugs the hell out of me as she plays the same exact character she plays in everything. It is a good show, just expect the pretentious factor jump up in season 3. Chuck Palahniuk! Invisible Monsters was decent. As for Rant, it took me two reads to appreciate it. Have you read Pygmy yet? It took me a while to get past the writing style in Pygmy's narrative voice, but once I got the hang of it, it was a good ride.

Six Feet Under is a slow build...kinda like The Wire (but not as good, of course nothing is as good as The Wire). Echo Mid on Louie and Sherlock....both fantastic. I'm currently finishing getting caught up on House. Reading: Read-Aloud Handbook and The Book of Basketball Playing: L4D2, GTA: Stories from Liberty City, and some Haloz.

Tara - In the last 2 years, I've read and The Road and Walking Dead both with major father/son themes. If I wasn't a young father myself, I'm positive they wouldn't have moved me the way they did. I think I read The Road 3 times in 10 days. Walking Dead btw if you are into comics is the BEST zombie book out there right now, so good in fact that the director of Shawshank Redemption is doing a TV series version of it for HBO.

Palahiuk's a freak. I just finished Pygmy, same kinda reaction as you on In "Invisible monsters". It was hard as hell for me to read with the incorrect grammar and "Engrish", written in a detached scientific tone from the point of view of the main character. Not bad and kinda interesting but...

I tried following SFU with my wife, but just couldn't hold on. There was something about most of the characters that I just couldn't deal with. I stopped watching season 3 and didn't even pick it up again. She watched the whole thing and made me watch the finale, that I'm sure if I had remained invested in the show I would have enjoyed immensely. I just kept asking myself "what's the point" to all of it. Good luck if you try to stick with it.
