This November 11 marks a day in which we remember our current, past, and retired veterans. You know, the men and women that have and continue to protect and maintain our blanket of freedom that we as Americans get to enjoy? Well, some of these brave men and women are serving in harms way, literally, and they need our help.
Fronttowardsgamer.com, founded and led by Stephen “Shanghai Six” Machuga, who was a former Captain in the U.S. Army and badass U.S. Army Ranger, retired of course, has decided to start a fundraiser that plans to collect enough money with the aim of providing care packages for U.S. soldiers serving in high threat combat areas.
What do these care packages consist of? Well, video games, what else?
The idea is to raise enough money to be able to buy video games and gaming systems and send them to the troops overseas in hot bed areas. This way it will give them a little piece of home and a way to decompress after stressful days in the field.
As a former military member myself, I can recall being deployed to Egypt and the good folks with the MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation) Command supplied us with Super Nintendo and Street Fighter games. The support was very helpful as it gave us a way to take our minds off things and relax. This is the reason and it's an issue very close to my heart.
So how can you help? Well, head on over to Operation Supply Drop and click on the donate button. You can also donate on my other blog as well. A few dollars or a hundred dollars whatever you can spare will help. They are also raffling off a Prestige Edition of Call of Duty: Black Ops to the lucky donor. For a $10 donation, you will be put in the hat for a chance to win the most coveted video game of 2010.
The actual drawing will be on November 11, Veteran’s Day. So, click on the link and help out Front Towards Gamer’s effort in raising money that will ultimately make a soldier one happy gamer.
