Dead Rising 2 - SUX!

Dean and I played a ton of video games this long weekend. :)

We got married in Fable, and then he wanted to divorce because he thought it would get him an achievement. I wouldn't let him divorce me though.

Then we played Dead Rising 2 for a while. In concept, this game should rule. Well it fucking sucks. I give it 3 out of 10. It would be a 7 if it stripped the whole element of time management from the game. What good is the ability to combine random shit into crazy ass weapons if you can't go around and use them? I really just want to spend an hour decapitating zombies.

Dean says I just need to "play more to get into it." Whatever. We failed a mission twice because we ran out of time. When we finally passed the mission it's because we just walked past every zombie to make it through a series of cut scenes. Where's the fun in that?

After the failed couple attempts at playing Dead Rising 2 and going back to Fable 3, I started thinking about how all the games out there pretty much suck. There is nothing on the horizon that I'm super interested in playing. There are good sequels on the way (Bioshock, Dead Space, Oblivion, Portal, GoW, Ghost Recon). But sequels are you know...sequels. And then there's LA Noire - which will basically be Grand Theft Auto all guido-ed up.

WTF video game industry. You suck. Or am I missing something? Enlighten me.

PS! - Don't forget to sign up for the Call of Duty Black Ops community play date. Meet some people and then knife them in the mouth!

If you can wait until Spring 2011, Brink looks like it will be the new hotness. Vanquish and Enslaved have gotten good reviews and you can probably pick them up cheap.

I kinda felt that looking from the launch of Fable 3 to mid Feb 2011 taht there's nothing out there I want to play including the madden of shooters : Blops. Feb/March I'm looking forward to Homefront and Epic's Bulletstorm. Homefront will be 32 players , dedicated servers and full ground and air war capable. Bulletstorm looks interesting and build on the latest Unreal engine stuff but now i'm thinking about Epic's shitty network code, host advantage and all the typical Gears problems. So fo rme Homefront is most promising. Duke Nuke'em might also come out, it's suppose to come out in Feb but i wouldn't be surprised if it got bumped. It's been bumpd for 10 years so what's one more. I agree with Dead Rising 2. I played the Case Zero and remembered how much i hated the time management aspect of the game and decided not to bother picking up DR2 because of it. The game could be so much fun if it weren't for the stupid time pressure.

I hate that time BS too in the Dead Rising series. That's why I didn't even consider picking up the second game. I don't want to get half way through again, then be fucked cause I saved at one end of the world with 1 min to get all the way to the other end. Shitty all around. I don't think it's the video game industry that sucks, but rather us. Every time a new IP comes out, 95% of the time we are too scared to buy and support it. So, rightfully, they are all sticking to sequels, cause that's only what we are wanting to buy :)

There's probably some truth to that - except sequels become popular from new IP that gets supported. ;) But by all means - list out the games that should have been supported. I'm looking for something!

I agree with Soup that Brink looks to be one of the more innovative FPS's to hit the market in recent years. Homefront also has potential, but KAOS Studios has a history of being overly ambitious on titles and underdelivering on the final product. BFBC2: Vietnam should also be out soon. ;)

Regarding Dead Rising 2 - I still haven't played it, but from the first one and Case Zero, the Japanese design elements really do the premise a disservice. Lack of save anywhere, timed missions, etc... really take away from what could be just a fun zombicidal experience. I think you should just play a series of JRPG's over your next longer break. I look forward to a colorful expose. Enslaved was a breath of fresh, new-IP air, if you're into story-driven platforming. As for new IP's, I'm most looking forward to Homefront (written by the Red Dawn dude, can't go wrong). Trouble with picking a good, new IP is that previews are complete shit as they often outright lie about how the game is shaping up (most egregious was OXM saying Hour of Victory was shaping up to give COD a run for it's money).

I could not stand that save system and timed missions of Dead Rising 1, so 2 was a def. no-go. I've got to agree that there is not a whole lot out there that I'm interested in picking up. Two Worlds Two actually looks hot, but am certainly going to wait for a review before getting it. I steered clear of the first one, and was glad I did. Other than that, there is nothing on my radar that I NEED to have, unless Bethesda releases a new Elder Scrolls Game. If you're looking for a new IP to play, Borderlands was probably the coolest new IP I've played in a looooonnng time.

Loved Borderlands! Was way under-rated by reviewers.
