A vent, then some game talk

Just wanted to vent a bit - what it is with recent college graduates and the sense of entitlement?  Working past 5 is a huge deal?  Traveling is a "choice"?  Demaning to work from home is normal?  Obviously, I don't want to go into detail, but it's no wonder we Americans are getting our lunch eaten in the global marketplace.

Game-wise - there are a number of games coming out this week that I'm interested in.  Virtua Tennis 4 looks like it could be fun to play against my lady.  Lego Pirates of the Caribbean looks fun as well, although lately, I haven't had much fun with Lego games.  Brink, of course, looks interesting, and is majorly hyped, but will it peter out quickly?  I've only read a few of the impressions on metacritic, and I'm just not sure about this one.  Finally, The First Templar has me interested.  However, with this one, it's not striking me as a $60 game.

I may pick up VT4 tonight (I'm such a casual these days) and wait for the inevitable price drops on the remaining three.

Other than that, I'm still plugging away on Arcania.  It has exceeded my expectations (I was expecting complete Risen-esque crap) to the point that I'm now 17.5 hours into it.  It's not a great game by any means, but I do like that I didn't encounter my first giant spider for 15 hours.  That's got to count for something.

I picked up the first VT on the 360 way back when and enjoyed it, never stuck with the series though. I may have to check it out. Pirates is a definite purchase, that one's been pre-ordered for a bit. I canceled my pre on Brink since someone on my FL had it a week early and going by their thoughts it didn't seem like my kind of game. First Templar has me interested as well, I need to find out more about it before looking into it though. I may have to look into Arcania after all. I didn't hate Risen, but it didn't grab me either.

Totally agree with your rant. I try very hard not to discriminate, but the recent college graduates I hired have been very difficult to deal with. The moment I outline our level of expectations they either piss and moan, or do as little as possible to meet expectations without going above and beyond, even a little bit.

You aren't far off with society, when my wife and I graduated college (2005) we were being encouraged into a certain type of thinking; 1. employers will fight over you (false) 2. employers will want to move toward a more global workforce than a local one (false) 3. for almost any job, all you need is a computer and an internet connection (super false). you will be making $45,000 immediately after graduation (SUPER MASSIVE FALSE) my graduating class was still based in reality and were hesitant to believe all that crap, the next group of graduates were not so open minded to question the BS they were being fed. the new graduates still think that they have a right to a paycheck and don't think it is something that must be earned.

Two minutes before I read this, I had a guy come in my office and tell me he needed next Wed. off so he can drive his girlfriend to a doctor visit. I told him that he has only been here for three months and has not earned vacation yet. He seemed unable to understand why I wouldn't just let him off work all day just to shuffle his girlfriend around.
