Pong anyone?

So tonight I sounded a little like my dad, or my grandfather, telling my kids how different their lives are from mine growing up.  I told them how we didn't have cell phones, or the interwebs, or the kinds of video games they play today.  I told them how when I was their age, the only video game was pong.  To show them how miserable life was compared to Lego Pirates, or Halo, or CoD, I Googled "pong," and showed them a YouTube video of that ancient game.  Did they feel sorry for me?  Were they shocked how simple the game was?  No, they asked if I could download it so they could play it.  Seriously!?  Instead of paying $60 for every Lego game that comes out, maybe I should just download Space Invaders, Galaga, Pac Man, Centipede and all the other games I played as a kid...

(Wow,I  just realized I haven't blogged in three years.  BTW, Mexicana paid for all our stolen luggage, in case you were still wondering.)

I can kinda relate. My son, age 10, goes into my old PS1 games every so often. Even the ones I want to play when I reach 40, like Final Fantasy 7 and Xenogears. As much as I risk them getting scratched, I like the way he enjoys playing them. Also, with Wii's downloaded games, we both enjoy old Super Mario and Galaga and Donkey Kong. Also, we head to a bar/arcade called Dave and Busters. We are both badasses at Sniper Scope. Father and son bonding, good times.

I tried something similar with the old Intellivision emulations that are out, trying to show my son how far things had come and what used to be considered cutting edge tech. All I got was his condolensces on a tech-deprived childhood. Btw, nice letter to the airline in the last blog. Very badass.
