Can't spell "gout" without the OW

Trying to fight off an onset of gout right now.  Not that there's much you can do about it (I don't think) but I try to take some ibuprofen and walk around a bit (I get it in my foot) and that seems to help sometimes.  I take allopurinal every morning anyway, but with being on Atkins I kind of set myself up for it more than normal.  I've discovered that by increasing the amount of fat in my diet it offsets the high protein and usually keeps the pain away.  I found this Kraft sandwich shop spicy mayo thats totally badass.  It like 12g of fat per teaspoon and nothing else at all.  No carbs, no protein...there is absolutely no way you would ever eat this shit personally because its so bad for you.  But by using it in every meal I've actually counteracted the effect of getting too much protein in the diet.  It works for me anyway.

As I said I normally get the gout in my foot, left foot to be specific.  Normally it manifests itself in either the instep or the ankle, sometimes both.  For those of you who get gout flareups you already know how fucking extreme the pain is.  Last attack I had was a little over 2 months ago and I actually got it in both feet.  First time ever, I couldn't fucking walk...the pain was unbelievable.  I have a set of crutches around the apartment from the last severe gout attack I had a few years back so I was using those to do mundane things like getting up off a chair and getting to the bathroom.  The doc prescribed a steroid pack for me and that cleared things up within the hour.

The day is off to a great start so far.  I dropped the cap to my water bottle while taking my meds this morning.  Normally not a big deal, except this time it did a little hopping around and managed to deposit itself in my toaster.  So I did a little shaking (fortunately I never use the toaster or that would have been messy) over the sink and...I don't see the cap anymore.  It didn't come out, but its not in the toaster anymore either.  Did I mention great start to the day?  The only reason I bring this up is because so far I've spilled water on my keyboard twice while typing this.

80s Thursdays!  How about revisiting one of the hottest musical babes from the decade?  Yeah, that works.  Remember Patty Smyth and Scandal?  Mmmm, Patty Smyth.  (note: spilled the water bottle a third and fourth time here).  Sadly she married John McEnroe which kinda...ew.  Anyway, I'm throwing in an interview she did a few years back with Bloomberg TV regarding those videos, thought it was kind of interesting.  Enjoy, and have a great day.

I started getting gout last summer and the first time I literally thought that I had ruptured or severely strained my Achilles tendon. I get it in my heel, and it was the most painful thing I had ever experienced. Mine was due to a high protein diet as well, so i have to temper that. Doc gave me some steroids that knock it out as well. Feel for you man, that shit is no joke

I've had attacks for 15 years. Didn't have an attack for the 8 months I did Atkins because I had figured out my trigger. Sodium nitrate or nitrite, which is in every pre-packaged meat, If I only eat non-cured meat, no gout. And naproxen sodium works better than ibuprofen.

Gout sucks. Since starting Allupurinol, I have not had it come back. Good luck. People that have never had it can not imagine the pain.

Exactly, rabbit and Daddy...the pain is just indescribably severe. So far fighting it off, sometimes I'm able to get by with minimal discomfort. 'bama...I'm with you on the nitrites. I actually have avoided those since day 1 because of the coronary risks I've read about. I will try the naproxen sodium, thanks a ton for that advice.
