Shared on Mon, 05/23/2011 - 18:11Okay I figured I would use my first blog to look for help from the 2o2p community in solving a problem I’m having. Some of you may have read that my account was hacked, and gamertag stolen. The hackers never did anything else to my account just took my gamertag I have had since being a beta tester for live eight years ago.
To give a quick timeline on what happened I will try to use some bullet points:
- April 16th – I got a few messages through live from a strange gamertag saying they were one of my friends and asking for my email. I have gotten these in the past and just did what I always do and delete them.
- April 16th – Got a phone call from a unknown number say they were from Microsoft and trying to verify information on my account for live. I told them if they were MS they would have my info, and they hung up. I promptly logged into my account and changed my secret password and logon password.
- April 16th – ACCOUNT LOCKED/SUSPENDED
- April 17th – I get a message saying my gmail account password has changed. So I quickly log in and change my password for it.
- April 17th – I get a message saying a 1600 MS point card has been redeemed to my account. I knew I was fucked here. So I called Xbox support and they confirm my gamertag has been changed, so they start an investigation and it would be about 14 days to clear everything up.
- April 18th – I get a call from xbox asking and I provide my console information. I also learn from a CSR guy named Nathen that it appears my account information was all phished from them and the hackers were able to change my account password to access it.
- April 22nd I get a email from gmail saying I had possible unauthorized access from a IP in Canada on April 17th , so I call and provide this info to MS.
- About April 27th – I call to check on the status of my investigation only to be told my info was never sent up to the fraud department because the two call centers never combined the data when I called in.
- Since then I have called about every 3 or 4 days to find out the status only to be told they don’t have any more info and it is the hands of the fraud department.
- I have tried the suspended account forums on the xbox website but they just tell me to call support.
I think 37 days should be long enough to complete an investigation. I missed the whole Gears 3 beta on my main tag. I have a family account with my kids and girlfriend’s gamertags on there so they haven’t been able to play either. I created another gt just so I could play some of the beta but all the un-lockables are pointless because I won’t be keeping these tags.
I’m so fed up I am really about to just say fuck xbox live and move on. All this shit because some XBL rep gave out information they weren’t supposed to and I pay the price.
Any ideas to get this resolved quicker pass it on… PLEASE!
