Modern Warfare 3: @#$%&*!!!

So I drank the Koolaide again, and went out release day night to buy Modern Warfare 3 for Xbox360. So many things right with this game (haterz gonna hate), yet it still has the same damning online multiplayer issues. Things that drive me batshit.

Right: Most things, actually. 1) Graphics, 2) Framerate, 3) Controls, 4) Party system that lets you quickly jump into games with 9 friends and stay together, 5) Spec Ops, 6) Short sweet campaign, 7) Addicting RPG-like leveling & collecting elements to the multiplayer, 8) new Strike Packages instead of just Killstreaks.

Wrong: 1) The connections. Just like Black Ops, being consistently successful in CoD comes down to 2 things: You pulling Host, or camping like a m'fer. Sooo tired of watching the killcam (from the host's perspective) and seeing that I was seemingly a full second behind my opponent.  2) The aim assists. Playing all night, and you'd swear that every one of the hundreds of opponents that I faced were CoD pros. No, it's the filthy thick heavy aim assist mechanics in this game. Hopefully no one is fooling themselves into thinking this game rewards FPS skill - the game practically aims for you. The strength of the aim assists varies too, depending on some unknown factor; maybe the game scales the power of the aim assist to your ping connection to the host. I believe some MW3 players are experimenting with running torrents and such on their connections to increase their performance in game. Crazy.

Anyway, I'm already at level 75 out of a maximum 80 levels, and have most stuff unlocked for mp play. Definitely won't be prestiging like I did in Black Ops. I think after I get to 80 and unlock some important Pro Perks, I'll only be playing this on the weekends with the late-night Hardcore Team Deathmatch crew. So yea, after a full 4 days & nights playing this game, I pretty much of the opinion that CoD:Black Ops is a more fun game. FTW: using CoD currency to unlock items instead of by level, better perk combinations, flame throwers, emblem customization, bot matches, no quickscoping snipers, better designed and more interesting maps,

So...now my sights are on the next competitive FPS coming to consoles: "Counterstrike: Global Offensive." Why do I think it'll be better than Modern Warfare 3? It fixes the 2 issues I have above: 1) CS:GO will be on dedicated servers, which means no host advantage, 2) There will be NO AIM ASSIST. That's right punks, you actually have to have skill to play this shooter. CS:GO is supposed to release sometime earlyish next year. If you haven't checked it out yet, see this preview:

Thanks, seeya!

Saturday update: And just like that, I went ahead and Prestiged anyway. Game is like delicious candy that gives you a sugar rush, while at the same time causing mood swings and rotting your teeth.

I have almost no interest in playing shooters anymore that use peer to peer. Instead of Activision spending all that time and money working on Elite web servers which don't even work, they should invest in dedicated servers. or at least put code into the game to allow people to turn their consoles into dedicated servers.
