Skyrim, New Vegas, SWTOR

First off, I finally got into the big beta for Star Wars The Old Republic.  I played on Saturday, from 11:00am right up until kickoff of the Iron Bowl.  Got my trooper up to level 8.  I thought that for a stress test, the servers performed well.  I did have a problem with desktop crashes when trying to create a Sith Inquisitor, but for my trooper, it was easy going.  My main thought about the game - it's cool.  However, I didn't feel immersed in the Star Wars universe.  Once the cutscenes were finished, and I was deployed on Ord Mantell, it felt like any other mmo.  Not a bad thing, it was a fun time.  It just didn't feel like Star Wars.  I imagine that going deeper into the story, and facing off against some sith will alleviate that.  Maybe hanging out with some Jedi too.

On Sunday, I finally went back to Skyrim.  Very good game.  However, after getting my ass handed to me 6 times by a frost troll, it became evident that I need to re-roll my toon.  I wasn't concentrating at all on my conjuration or destruction, instead, relying more on sword and board.  I need to create a more well-rounded character.  Sure, I'm only level 5, and can right the ship with what I've got, but to do that, I'll have to fast travel from High Hrothgar and avoid the fight with the frost troll.  Just seems kind of douchey to me.

After my frustration with the frost troll, I decided to put in Fallout: New Vegas.  I haven't played this game since it launched over a year ago.  I found it too glitchy so I tabled it.  I started over completely and put about 3 hours into it.  It feels a lot better now, which I suppose, is to be expected after a 16mb patch.  I had a good time with it, and can't wait to get back to it tonight.  Now, here is a problem - the major DLC will run $40USD to get.  The full edition will be released in February, 2012.  If I get into this game, hook line and sinker, DragonAge style, should I buy the DLC, or wait for the new package?  Waiting will be a risk in that there is a chance that the game will be shelved and I won't finish it out (like Fallout 3).  I would be spending $40 either way, so do I just bite the bullet and get the DLC when I'm ready for it?

I played New Vegas until I hit the level cap. The DLCs each raise the cap. I decided to watch for Deal of the Week sales for the DLC. They did the first two a few weeks ago. I'm betting that between Christmas and New Year's all 4 DLCs will be available for half price on one of the one-day-only deals.

Fire is the secret to trolls, the regenerate when damaged, but fire is their weakness. A frost troll at level 5 though will still be rough going. you can go around that troll by scaling the mountian to the left side of the path right as you reach where he is, just avoid getting within aggro range.
