Modern Warfare 3

Fetal

I've written strategy guides for games before in the past, and decided I'd share some information I've learned playing MW3 that's helped me out.

If you're wondering about my credentials ( basically if I'm full of BS) my current k/d is 1.6 something and my win/loss is almost 3/1. The k/d on this edition of COD is actually low for me. I only had less than a 2.4 on a COD title in COD 4 and I attribute the low score in MW3 to the new player OVER compensation and me running into so many hard core campers when the game first came out. (you'd think people would want to explore the maps)The k/d and the win/loss ratio has been slowly rising and here's why.

Fetal's 11 Commandments:

1. Run with a regular group of at least 5 when you can. Not only will having teammates who are all working towards the same goal help with winning, it will also help with improving k/d. If you run with the same group regularly you'll improve even more because you'll begin to learn the tendencies of your teammates and anticipate them.

2. Find a gun you like and do well with and stick to it. You can see which gun you play the best with if you look at elite (even if you're not a paying member you can still use this feature) and it will tell you your k/d with each individual weapon. This means if you've fallen in love running around with a p90 with rapid fire and extended mags, but your k/d is .7 and your k/d with the acr is 1.7, switch to the acr. You're way more effective with it.

3. Customize your perks for your playstyle.

A. You like to camp? assasin pro, blind eye, and dead silence. Many people who camp are convinced they need sit-rep. If you're not moving, running into betties and claymores is not a concern, so why do you need to see them? You're wasting a perk. Dead silence will help keep you hidden...Marksman is for snipers.

B. You run around from point to pointwith an assault rifle? Use extreme conditioning, blast shield and sit-rep. UAV are like the plague in this game, once one shows up they never stop appearing. If you're going to run assasin pro, run silenced or you're negating the purpose of using the perk. So, instead of nerfing your gun, choose blast shield. It'll keep you alive longer and isn't a complete waste.

C. You want to be a douche? Run with the striker shotgun with range and grip, use slight of hand, blast shield and steady aim. For a secondary be an even douchier douche and run the akimbo skorpions. This class is so rediculously overpowered it alone is almost resposible for my .15 rise in k/d the last week.

4. Know when the spawns flip! I can't stress this enough. In any game look at your mini-map and if you have 5 teammates in front of you, stop looking at them and start worrying about looking behind you. Chances are they've now pushed the spawn around behind you and you should be ready for it.

5. Stop rushing the guy who has killed you three times in a row. All you're doing is making him really happy and frustrating yourself. Go find someone else to kill. You probably won't "get him" the next time and you're just feeding his kill-streak.

6. Choose an appropriate strike package.

A. Does your k/d hover around 1 or below it? Choose a support package and limit the highest one you choose to 8 kills. There is no use choosing the juggernaut or emp killstreak if you don't get 18 kills every 3 or 4 games. All you're doing is wasting the opportunity of getting 4 or 5 killstreaks compared to 2. If you run uav, counter uav, vests or airdrop traps and Sam turrets. If you get 13 kills you get 5 killstreaks to help out your team, and even if you only get 8 kills, that's still 3 killstreaks, one or more than what you would have had if you chose something higher than you can reliably get.

B. You have a positive k/d but it hovers around 1.1 and 1.2? You could still run support, but a team full of supprt guys rarely wins a game. Chose the assault package and just do uav, care package and sentry gun. This works great if someone on your team runs with trap package cause you can be reasonably sure your packages will be safe. Your sentry guns are like another teammate...albeit a dumb one who only looks in one direction, but a teammate none the less. and his kills count as your own, so watch the k/d rise and so will the w/l. The care package is nice because you aren't expecting to live long anyway, and if you run hardline, you can start popping this babies out like marshmallow peeps during easter. Who knows what you'll get? It could be something totally cool like a C-130 or an airdrop gunner or you could get a uav, in which case you don't lose much. The reward of this streak greatly outweighs the risk.

C. You are a god. run specialist, but you don't need to read this, do you?

7. Stay out of open areas! If you don't have something to take cover behind or retreat into, you're in a bad place. Stick near walls, around crates, anything when you're moving around the map. The straight line is often the worst line in this game. It might look quicker to run out in the open to somewhere, but trust me, right angles and obliques are where it's at. The straight line gets you dead, and dead is not quicker to where you wanted to be. The way that get's you safely alive to where you want to be is the good way to go.

8. Learn how to do the drop shot. There is a sweet spot in an enemy's hud where if you drop prone in front of him his aim lock on can't keep up with you, but your's can with him. Learn the correct distance to do this at and you'll thank me for telling you this. If you're too close though, you'll just put your head in front of his gun, and if you're too far away, you just looking foolish and he can strafe around you faster than you can turn while lying prone. This is an art and can only be learned perfectly by trying it over and over til you get it.

9. Just knife em if they're close, especially if they're not looking at you. Why shoot someone, waste ammo and leave a bright orange dot on the enemy's mini-map telling them where you are? Just knife him.

10. Run with stingers as a secondary. Shooting down anything that flies counts towards your killstreaks. You need at least 2 guys on every team to keep the skies clear. If you have a low k/d, doing this is a great way to get those quicky killstreaks and you're team will love you because they won't have to waste their first perk on blind eye.

11. Have fun. I can't stress this enough. If you're not having fun playing, then you aren't going to do well, and your attitude will become infectious with the rest of the team and everyone will get pissed and it'll be a deep spiral of horrible play after that. Winning is fun for me, but I'll stop playing in a heartbeat if I'm not having fun, even if I'm winning. I do this because I know inevitably I'll be circling the drain within a couple games or so, and then we'll start losing even more and i'll go to bed angry.

Hope this helps. Any Questions? PM me.
