Performing Behavior Evaluations, Santa Paws, and Hanging with Shadow

Volunteering at the shelter this weekend was really interesting!  I assisted in a few dog behavior evaluations and I learned a ton!  I also was nipped by a dog for the very first time in that environment.  I've volunteered there for about four years without any sort of bite-related incident.  The only other dog bite I received was from my friend's Bichon Frise (about two years ago).  That was also the worse dog bite I've received... no broken skin, but a good amount of bruising, especially considering the size of the dog.  What I received during the behavior evaluation was a "correction snap."  In this case, no bruising, but this is very serious in a shelter environment.  I'm happy it was me, instead any of my friends or colleagues.

In addition, my buddy, LaLa had the chance to meet Santa Paws!  La is nervous around strangers, so some bacon was needed, but we were able to get a cool shot!

The dude playing Mr. Paws had a good time!  He had the chance to hang out with some cool dogs and sometimes pretty ladies would sit on his lap too!!!  Right on, Santa!

Lastly I had the chance to work with Shadow, my pen pal!  What a great dog!  We spent the majority of the time sitting and relaxing.  He really wanted his belly rubbed.  Easy enough, Shadow.  I can do that.
