Since I have played Skyrim seriously enough, I've taken to modding the shit out of it. Most of them cosmetic towards PC and NPCs. The trouble with that is it will make the game unstable as fuck, especially because most of the newer mods, intended for 1.9 are compounds and not at all clear on what's compounded.
So I see something pretty, install it, try it, CTD. And then the search for the conflicting mods begins in a list of well over 100 mods. And then, when you sort it all out, Skyrim itself doesn't want to play ball anymore...
*facedesk, facedesk, facedesk*
So, for those out there thinking about modding their Skyrim, here's a list of what my Skyrim doesn't like so much:
-The official hi-res DLC. Increases loadtimes for the outside, negative-framerates around Windhelm and any other place where your toon has a LOS for miles and miles. (And even then, the difference between the 360-pc port and the Hi-res DLC is very little. Most of the loading is due to the fact that the hi-res is bolted on and the game keeps reading from the ESPs.)
-HD textures on NPCs. You'll understand when you try it out and you enter Solitude for the first time (the beheading scene) or during the morning when every NPC goes about or to business.
-Extra forests, extra buildings, better roads, water, air, dragons, extra dragons, battlefields. Huge no-no, especially when you try them all together. Will take about 10 minutes to load, choppy framerates and extra dragons will just force your Skyrim to a stand-still.
-Apachii Hair on NPC's. it's fine when only the PC has a spliffy 'do.
-General armor replacers... Don't do it. It's fine when only the PC has a great armor-set. Funky stuff like awesomely kitted out city-guards is not wise.
-Marry Serana... well it's a good idea... except, she wasn't meant to be married and the mods that attempt it will crash your game out. Tried it in many ways, even as the only mod running and it just won't work. So the most eligible vampire-bachelorette stays a bachelorette in my Skyrim...
Well, currently re-installing Skyrim... And the search for a stable mod-mix I'm happy with begins... again. ^^
