In State of Decay there's no specific class-system. Everybody who isn't a zombie is a survivor. However, each survivor may have a set of skills that puts him or her in a specific arche-type. There are three.

  • Powerhouse
  • Reflex
  • Average

These are just the skills to look for when training up your survivors. Average is no skill, it just means that the survivor isn't a Powerhouse or a Reflex.

Outfitting your survivors should now not be mystery anymore.

  • Powerhouse; Heavy Weapons.
  • Reflex; Edged or Blunt.
  • Average; Blunt.

Guns are an option too, but they make too much noise even when suppressed. They should therefore be considered last stand weapons. Also, they're no good choice against special zombies unless the Zed (Zeds are all zombies that aren't run off the mill) is bloated. A Bloated is filled with strangling gass and is best killed at range. Don't try to kill a Bloated with a car, the gass-cloud will be trapped in the cabin.

Specialization should be relevant to the weapon your survivor is wielding. A Powerhouse should therefore select Heavy Weapon Specialization.

Special skills, which are unlocked as you level a survivor are a toss up between equally good skills. Your choice here is as good as mine will be. Go with what you think is best. You can't really go wrong.

Before taking out a new survivor, take a good look at how many stars he/she has in their skills. A survivor with high wits is a great scavenger. A survivor with Leadership should be used to make first contact with enclaves and do the morale missions, ally in trouble missions and the Zed-hunt missions. This will boost his/her Leadership which is extremely important for when you're logging off for the day. Leadership survivors limit the damage that's being done when you log on again.

The biggest loss to your crew is the loss of a Leadership survivor. Take great care of them.

Benficial bugs that are impossible for UL to remedy:

Keeping your stores low will result in a load of freebies when you log on again. Don't go out of your way to keep your stores maxed, as the RNG will slaughter you.

Don't loot houses completely. Search the last container, but don't loot it. All containers in that house will respawn after a set time. The best way is to search all containers in a house first and then loot the containers that have the best loot for you, leaving one container with crappy loot as your respawn-marker.

Have fun!
