So, either they got preorder numbers in and they were much lower than anticipated or they began to take the negative reaction seriously.

I'll be interested to see how the internet reacts to this.  My guess is not much will change.  My gut tells me the 12 year old IGN reaction will be "they were gonna do it so you can't trust them".  Meanwhile, I still have the bad taste of rootkits in my mouth.
