Thoughts on Halo: CE Anniversary
So I was all excited to play the remake of Halo. I've not been disappointed, but I've not been wowed. I hoped (but didn't expect) that AI would be tweaked to make the game a bit more difficult and that did not happen. In fact it pretty much seems to play pretty near to the original. That's not a bad thing. I'm pretty pleased with it, will finish it, and will play it again I'm sure.
I'm also looking forward to some multiplayer. I haven't played any Halo multiplayer in ages.
So on a scale of 1 - 10, I'll give it a 9.
I think the AI holds up pretty well compared to the current FPS standard that makes too many shooters feel like you're just waiting for the next groundhog to stick his head up out of his hole. It may be the same 10 year old AI, but it's still pretty solid, and darn fun.
New visuals are pretty good, and the sound is sweet. I like the extra back story you get by finding terminals. Just not sure how meaningful it will be if I don't find all of them.
Some of the repetitive level design doesn't hold up. It was a little monotonous 10 years ago. It's hard to take today.
The kinect feature is pretty neat.
CEA was a no brainer for me. It's one of those games I can pick up and play at any time.
The game still looks great in classic mode in high resolution 16 x 9 format. And while I enjoyed the new visuals, I think the atmosphere was lost on a few levels by the environment being brighter.
I just finished the campaign and I enjoyed it. I did not play Halo: CE when it first came out so this was my first time with it and thought it was a great game that holds up. The one thing I did not like was the Flood. I knew the Flood was in it but I just did not understand how much they were in it.
I need to do The Library and everything after,, in co-op, on Legendary. PM me if interested :D
sold it back two days after downloading the ANNY maps
I just had the most AWFUL bunch of games on Anniversary Classic. I was throwing stickies that went through people and hung in midair, I was constantly whiffing dudes trying to get beatdowns. I swear I they would just go around my beatdown every single time. And then to top it off, I was planning on making some clips of the BS after the most recent game - but as it went to the lobby, it never came back from the black screen and then I got an xbox "Disc Unreadable Error" and was kicked out - wiping all my recent games. Uh, this is downloaded map packs, so unless my hard drive is bad...
So frustrating.
you should be able to shutdown your xbox and still keep the cache for recent games as long as you don't put another game in.
did you load REACH to your HDD? it's optimized for that.
yep, i did. and no, the games were gone. It was weird.
bummer!
The Maps that came with it were not as great as I would have liked.
Agreed for the most part. Breakneck plays fairly well. Although, they removed the bauss hog and banshee which saddens me.
The classic maps are great, although I would have preferred Battle Creek instead of Beaver Creek. Damnation and Hang'em High my two favorite maps in the series.
Gauss Hog and Banshee are still on Headlong.
Must be a specific gametype because everytime I play it now, it's just a revanant and another chaingun warthog.
They were removed from Breakneck, but still exist on Headlong Anniversary.
Breakneck is the one exception. I do like that map a lot. But the rest were just so-so. I guesss Hang em high isnt all that bad either for CTF games but I dont like it that much for slayer. I know Ive said it probably a hundred times now but Burial Mounds needs to be re-made!
