Question about MS Wheel

Right,

After putting it off for ever decided to give this whole 'wheel thing' a go especially as my son has given me his MS wheel and pedals.

Now, I am not going to invest in any fancy new stuff so dont tell me it is rubbish and to throw it away as it was free which suits me fine.

My question is this. Is the MS wheel really this crap or do I need to set it up in some way?

No matter how lightly I apply the brakes it locks the wheels up on any of the cars I choose to use with it.

When changing down gears there seems to be a huge delay before the clutch actually engages and i can apply power.

Now, I am hoping that it is one of two things

1. There are some super secret settings that need to be adjusted.

2. The problem lies with the nut behind the wheel...

So, Your comments please I go back to my faithful controller!

P.

The MS wheel is a fine bit of kit and certainly the only decent option short of shelling out for a Fanatec rig. 1. The pedals are very touchy. For the brake, strap a large compacted sponge behind the brake pedal lever at the base. It will help with feel. Some people use tennis balls. 2. Some people say its difficult to modulate with the MS pedals. Don't agree. Just practice. 3. I assume you have it set up to manual with clutch and are mashing the A button as the clutch. If so, and it's slow, then your in luck, because it's probably you,:) and with practice you can put it right. If you are using just manual, then yes, it is sssslllloooooooowwwwww. :) you probably just need practice. It will take time but it is worth it. Cheers

a friend of mine got the MS wheel and personally i think its a good wheel...i am using the madcatz which is basically same set up as the MS wheel. Anyways its what you are used to and how much you are into forza. Sofar the people i raced with had the same wheel as mine or the MS and they do just fine. Its what you are used to

If your son had no problem with the wheel then it's just you. When I started with the MS wheel I felt the same way. Firstly I would change the clutch to the B button it's easier to reach when changing gear. I did try the sponge behind the pedal but gave that up quickly, it does take some time to judge the braking with the pedal . There is no feedback with the brake pedal it will just come with practice and patience. Pick a low PI car and a track and just keep going around with just that car you will slowly see an improvement honest. Personally I turned off all the assists when learning the wheel, it was jumping into the deep end when learning to swim but it worked for me. It will seem you are not making any progress at first and you will get frustrated but stick with it . You will get there and wonder why you ever used a controller at all. Good luck

Hello,

the MS wheel / pedals works fine, if you learn to feel it. I use it too. Hey, same story here. Got it from my son. :-) I don't know any secret settings, but can tell you a lot about that clutch thing. At the beginning it was frustrating. Specially if you turn on "simulation damage", but that's the only way to learn. The hard way. I started with no assists and I am getting faster. Even if I am the slowest from all other here, I am making progress.

The day will come, if I will win my first race!

Have fun!

Go to fm.net in the search engine type Microsoft wheel setup and it will link u to a bunch of good starting point setups! I would post the link for but just found out my Windows account and possibly xbox account were hacked today and I can't access anything at the moment :( On our old forum there was a link as well Cheers
