I bought a 360 slim and it broke

So is this the norm. MS said they fixed this kinda thing so maybe i am a unlucky fool. It may have overheated I am not sure. Well i know it was reaLLY hot. But the double blinking red light and error screen never appeared. just a solid red light and blank screen on tv. Also there is no HD in my unit, I saw that fix on youtube and tried it.  But ya it was in what I thought was a spot with adequte air flow, but man did the thing get hot. My PS3 was near I believe it turned on all by itself to turn the fan on and cool down. Or maybe it had somehow been on all the time. Pretty sure it wasn't. Anyways took it back and got a new one. Put it in trhe same spot and noticed a 10 minutes after turning it on she was really hot again. I left the cords with a lot of slack in them so i pulled it out of the stand and placed it on the floor for the rest of the game time. When I was done I noticed a lot of heat coming out of the exhaust vent. I thought these new ones were supposed to be cooler with smaller chips and what not. It gets just as hot as the old xbox. Thats not right.

My slim gets hot as balls, but I haven't had an issue with overheating.

Well you will get a lot of heat exiting out of the exhause vent, cause that is what is supposed to happen. If it is an a enclosed space it will just suck up the hot air it kicked out. So you either want it in an open areaor have some way of venting out the expelled hot air.

I don't have a Slim, but I keep a little oscillating fan running on mine and pushing cool air through it. I have had no issues in over a year.

Mine broke too but not from heat, the DVD drive stopped reading discs.  I wish we'd go back to solid state media.

hmmm an xbox that broke followed by another xbox that broke.   yep that's normal :D

hopefully the 720 is a lot better in terms of hardware reliability than the 360.

If I have a working 360 sitting on top of a broken 360 does that make me a redneck?
