I do not have a gaming pc yet. But very much looking into setting one up for CARS and Rfactor 2
Its awesome!!
if you decided to get into it just remember its in early pre alfa stages so there are gonna be alot of bugs, but still worth it. there currently working on a new tire physic that is supposed to change the whole game :)
Ive been involved with it for a few months now and iam so impressed with the devs communication with the community....something you wont find in forza
best bang for your buck is a full team member 45 euros....u get an update download every fri and a copy of the game when its released and possible profit shares if the game sells a million copies over all 4 platforms which should be pretty easy....cheapest tool pack is $5 and gives you 1 monthly download and 10% discount when the game is released

I drove that track at night. After a while I just slowed down and enjoyed the view. pCARS night lighting is amazing.

I still need a gaming PC. I do not have one at this point and I do not install any games on my main workstation. I am thinking to build one upfront with
triple screens so all 3 screens I get wil be same brand and same model. But that extra expanse scares me at the moment, Did anyone try CARS or rFactor 2
with triples? Those two games are primary targets for my new setup, I also thinking F1 2012 and iRacing. Yea I know! Too many rtacing games! That what my son said
but those are the only games I care for.
Still waiting for my Graphics card upgrade to try rFactor 2, pCars I have signed up to but when i tried to download it it failed twice. I am hooked on rFactor 1 and that is well worth a try. iRacing is very expensive, a fantastic sim but deep pockets needed to keep buying cars and tracks, some of these packs cost as much as an entire game.
As both pCars and rFactor 2 are still in development, iRacing and rFactor 1 are the main contenders at the moment for serious Sim racing with loads of tracks, cars and series running.
Are you trying the direct download or the torrent?
The torrent may be slower to get down but is probably more reliable, it is what I use now.
I paid my $60 for pcars, and run it on triple screens. I have dual 560tis GPUs and a Core i5 2500K CPU overclocked to 4.8 ghz. I can run pcars at 1920 X 1080 (single screen) with all eye candy at the max, but at 5760 X 1200 (triple screens) I have to turn down the eye candy significantly to get 30+ FPS. Some tracks are better than others. The game changes every week. For a while, I was able to use a naming trick to get better SLI performance, but lately, I have not been able to do that.
The game looks amazing already, even though its clearly not done. It looks like they are on the right track. I enjoy experimenting with the builds. There are plenty of tracks, but I wish they would add more cars. If you enjoy sim racing and have a beefy PC, its a no brainer, buy this game. Now...
I tried direct...and that was 2 hours LOL, I'll try the torrent next month, rFactor 2 is my next attempt, soon as the bloody card gets here. Thanks for the tip
... and if it does stop for some reason, restarting the download from where it left off is simple
I have the 670 SC 4 GB and it's main strength here is that pCARS really isn't SLI optimised so the more power you can throw at this with a single GPU, the better. Now that I know my system is stable with the 670 (it did not like rFactor at all until I tweaked rF's settings) I'll start overclocking and see what I can make this thing do.
pCARS is a sim that begs you to crank up the details. Yeah... I'll be adding a second 670 later in the year when the price drops. :)
does anyone know if rfactor 2 or pcars utilize "CUDA"?
i'm asking as the guy who's building me a pc is trying to decide between 2x GTX 550 Ti in SLI or 1x 6 series card.|
note: 2 gtx 550 ti are cheaper than 1 6 series card and mostly will out perform.
The lighting in this game is amazing. 60x timescale, had to cap at 1/2 res because FRAPS was choking on full res. Pick the 720p quality.

project cars, rfactor and iracing look great...for some reason that its on pc turns me off. Got a rendermachine so it runs these games with absolute ease..but dunno...looks great tho
Main issue I think is all the messing around.
ITs awesome when it works but can be a nightmare.
Where as with the 360 u put the disk in and press a button, Easy.
iRacing runs flawlessly, never have had problems with it. rFactor is great, and cheap, but its a pain in the ass to configure and maintain. Fortunately, we have the foremost rFactor experts in the world at GBR, led by Seahawks2Fan and F1Fan07. They can answer any question about configuring rFactor. pcars is fun, but raw.
yeah might be it that i am a lazy driver i wanna start right away instead of going through a whole set up to set things up before i can race. i think i will stick to forza lol
iRacing is actually easier and faster to get in and out than Forza. Just turn on the computer, double click a few icons and race. I have adjusted to the schedules, and now have set times I race on the weekends, for example I do NASCAR Nationwide races at 8:30pm and 10:30pm on Saturday nights.
once they are installed flipping between cars and tracks in rFactor puts Forza to shame...
back to GPUs here is what I have in mind for my dream PC:
CoolMaster case (I have my eye on older but still great 932 Advanced Full tower)
Power suply 650+ watt
I7 3770 (not sure if I want to go with K version) would I need overclocking? I am sort of old school on this
I prefer stability over extra performance. But might be wrong here.
Asus Sabertooh (this might be overkill) but what are heck board looks cool. Definitely want z77 chip set.
16 gig of ram
still not sure for hd. Would like to get 2 solids (one for system and one for games) but might be over budgeted
and maybe just one regular sata 3 (1 or 2t).
Video still in question It needs to be reasonable priced but still match the rest of the system.
Hey, man can dream right?
I like the set up. You might consider going 850 W for the PSU, in case you decide down the line to go SLI or Crossfire. Also, overclocking has helped my PC's performance in iRacing, which is CPU dependent, so go for the K version of the i7. As far as GPU, the best bang for the buck right now, IMO, is the Nvidia 670. Its $400 but pound for pound, its the best deal in GPUs. If that is too much for your blood, then the 560ti is also a great deal. I have two of them. They can be had for around $200 right now, if you shop around.
Correct me if I am wrong, but you would need 2 Nvidia cards to run triple monitor setup. I was sort of mind set on amd's chip that supports Eyefinity.
It depends on which Nvidia card you get. If you get the 670, you can run triples with just the one card. If you run triples with the 560ti, for example, you would need two of them in SLI. That is why the 670 is the better deal.
Also with the 670 you can run a 4th monitor for a data display (it can't be part of the main monitor group). Baller. I'll have that setup when I figure out how to mount all these monitors.
