Yoshihito Koyama, overseas marketing manager of SNK, hesitates to create PS3 games.
Mr. Koyama told Brian Ashcraft at Kotaku:
This should not spell destruction for the PlayStation 3 given the support from other publishers at this point. However, it is a concern that some publishers (Atari has also expressed this) are not currently enthusiastic about designing games on this next generation console.
Oddly, a few developers are excited about the Wii more then the PS3. With all the power behind the PS3 you would think developers would be happier than a kid in a candy store.
Mr. Koyama told Brian Ashcraft at Kotaku:
"My first impression is that it's expensive. The PlayStation 2 is good enough. It's small and cheap. For us, for manufacturers, we have to invest in a new system, and the PlayStation 3 is a risk. There won't be enough consoles at launch. Few consoles mean few software sales. We need to wait three or four years. Maybe 2009-2010 is a good time to release a game for the PS3."Although SNK's PlayStation 2 games will be backwards-compatible with the PlaySTation 3 it is not a reason to run out and buy a $600 console. It seems many developers are throwing around "expensive" as the reason to shy away from initial PlayStation 3 development.
