Miyamoto talks of GC remakes...

Miyamoto, a genius game designer for Nintendo, has come out and asked the question "why not remake GameCube titles with our WiiMote?"

Yes, Miyamoto, the brains behind Zelda and Mario ponders the idea of porting some GameCube games to the Wii to replay with the new controller mechanisms.

"Of course you can wander into a second hand shop and buy a lot of these games still, so I don't think we can release these remakes at full price. Since a lot of the development cost has already been accounted for, we'll be able to release these at a much more affordable price," says Miyamoto. "And if others also take advantage of this and release remakes, there's a high possibility of a lot of software from third parties also."
This isn't too surprising considering the remakes like Mario 64 that get put on the Nintendo DS. The game sells plenty of copies even though it existed prior on an older platform.

Why should we respect Miyamoto? He says one single phrase that puts it into perspective "we'll be able to release these at a much more affordable price" - a man that realizes porting a game does not require 100% development costs. That means giving the customers a break.

Why does Battlefield cost the same on all platforms when it baked on one and was ported to the others? Nobody knows. It obviously wasn't developed from the ground up and if porting the game took longer than developing it from the ground up perhaps porting was the wrong solution. So why do we pay full cost for a port? Miyamoto has the right idea. Wii don't.
