Business Skills You Learn From Gaming
Now you can just explain to your non gaming spouse (or boss!!) that you are brushing up on your skill set for better employment opportunities!!

Way back in my X-COM: Enemy Unknown days, I prepared charts to determine costs to manufacture items for sale. I didn't know it at the time, but my trial and error method of costing introduced me to ABC costing systems and the concept of contribution margin. I still use similar examples when I tutor classes on management accounting or when explaining why I think gaming has practical uses for teaching such concepts.
There have been papers written on how leading successful MMO guilds and being an officer in a guild is similar to leading teams in real world scenarios. Unfortunately, I'm too lazy to find any of them :P
my boss didn't buy it...
There was a fairly famous blog post/rant about playing video games competively...I cant find it at the moment.
Basically it was about how people play games against the computer and think they are good then go online and get their asses handed to them. Several personality types emerge at that point...mostly the quitters and the whiners.
The underlying message was that the object is to win. You do not play the strategy you want to play but play the strategy that will beat the other guy.
