Did't do a damn thing for me in a game of merc moshpit. Still got matched up with people across the country. And when you party up with East and West coasters some are going to have to suffer. My ping from VA to CA is just under 100, which I guess isn't great. But it should be good enough to have a decent gaming experience. Sadly, that isn't the case.

Keep in mind how many people are playing in that play list. Merc has had only 1500 playing at a time when I was on mid day yesterday.
Somwthing like Dom or TDM will have 60k - 100k playing which the chances of you getting into a good connection are better.
Has anyone else seen games where you are 3 bar and you actually do better?
I have been in a couple games where i see guys shooting at me and i am able to walk through thier bullets to get kill them. Its if you are on the good side of the Lag Comp or not.
One game, 7 of the 12 people were 4 bar, went negaive. The other 5 were 3 bar and went postiive. F*ing crazy.
BEST doesn't work unless you have high end connections - better to stay NORMAL
I have 12 - 13 down and 0.70 mbps up which is higher than the UK average ( no modern infrastructure, only big cities get fibre optic at the moment ).
Games go my way 50 % of the time, and if there's a US player in the lobby, he / she is invincible.
THree bar and four bar games are irrelevant. If you have a red dot connection on your team, put down the controller and go get a beer.
I've had games with players rubber banding from one side of the map to the other, players walking through a hail of bullets like f*ckin' Terminator taking out the entire team, and too many disconnects to count - and all to the soundtrack of f*ckin timmies and their MP7's chattering like a stripper's teeth at the north pole.
My consolation - it seems to happen to everybody, whatever their connection speed, but it's pull your hair out frustrating, ( and I don't have enough hair left to keep pulling ).
Strangely enough, I kind of sympathise with the developers - how the hell do you design a system to try and even the playing field GLOBALLY when there is such disparity between connection speeds ? ( dedicated servers ? Yeah, right...like Activision are gonna cough up for those ).

If you have a true, viable solution, I'll invest.
You stop doing it globally. Odds are pretty damn good I'm not gonna meet some Austrailian guy in a game and strike up a friendship talking about kangaroos and shit. I'm probably in party chat with my pals, he's in party chat with his and one of us is having a shitty time because the other has host and lives on the other side of the world. It's not like COD is some unheard of game with 100 people playing. There's more than enough people that if I pick BEST connection I should only get connected to people in my country.
Easy solution for lag is Dedicated regional servers.
Not just like BF ones where it's like 5 or 6 giant global regions, but dozens of regional servers so that US, Canada and MExico would say have a dozen servers just for them.
EU would have a couple of servers just for them. Asia would have to have like 2 dozen. etc.
then maybe ONLY have lag compensation when you are connecting to a server 2 or more regions away.
of course having lots of dedicated servers cost $$$$, so that is why the big Gaming companies don't bother.
ps. For anyone who doesn't watch this guy on YouTube, give some of his vids a look. He's an older gamer like us, with a family, and usually takes a balanced, methodical approach to playing and commentary. I really enjoy his stuff for the most part.
I agree with that guy. My games are hit and miss with connections. When I'm fine, I'm really digging this game. When it's not, it's so frustrating. The conneciton issues I'm having never happened with MW3. It did with BLOPs1.
WEll, post patch, my connection seems more stable and more European - but that could be completely random.
I still had a hard reset, or two ( PS3 problem ), but was getting better scores.
Some games however, it was obvious my opponenets didn't have the connection.
Three games I got a 3+ K/D, but that's 'cos my opponents were busy talking about which spiderman toys they wanted for christmas - nothing says " real man ", more than out playing a team of six year olds online .
LagCompensation is killing this title. Take it out. I'd much rather have one guy "the host" to hate than a whole team of hosts. I feel like every game I play my whole team goes 32-2 or the exact opposit. Usually the latter. I hate that Triarch is so f@cking butthurt that Infinityward's net code is so much better, but they refuse to use it. I think they made some great changes to this game, but if the gameplay sucks what does it matter? Add to the mix a bunch of frustrated gamers who host quit mid match causing 1-3 host migrations a game and this game really gets frustrating.
Some hotfixes were rolled out today, and at least some people are saying that the lag comp is feeling significantly better for them. See if any of you notice a difference or not in your next gaming session. Fingers crossed that Treyarch actually did find ways to improve it.
Usually if i am alone the connection seems fine to me ( i am using best as my search preference). Its when i start to group up with people that is becomes hit or miss. Especially with those west coast guys.

I've seen numerous quotes and sources on the web that in pubs, although the primary search parameter is connection, there is some skill-based elements built in. Pros have even mentioned that when they play with their non-pro friends, and the less skilled friend is the party leader that does the search, they will often end up in "easier" lobbies, whereas when the pro is the leader, lobbies are harder.
Suggest that when you party up, try to let the least-skilled person be the party leader that does the matchmaking search, and see if that makes a diff?
I'm not sure what the deal is but I can't buy a good connection to this game. I guess I can't be surprised as I had mega issues with BLOPs1. I just figured Treyarch would make it better rather than it being worse. I want to play and enjoy this game. I just can't with the way it plays now.
The search has always had some level in that for that last couple games, but it usually looks at levels. So a non-prestige level 20 host will bring in more lower level people while a 6 prestige will bring in higher.
Unless you are in the league play, im not sure how they are mesuaring "Skill". Would be interesting to see and confirmed info on that.
The game is fucked. Even if the connections evened out that doesn't fix the horrible maps and broken spawns. There is no hope. Grab a lifeboat the titanic is going down

This game has the worst lag compensation and connections out of any of the cod games released to date. It is fucking atrocious
i bet that prefrence pretty much goes out the window if you are grouped with people acorss the country though.
I wonder if the serach will go by party leader in that case then.
Hopefully the games we were in last night Grex end. They were so off it was silly.
F#$% Ground war. The whole other team was green and we were all 3 bar. that is crap.
Anyway i still going to give this a shot. i will try anything.
Connection is King

I always had my better games when I was 3 bar
I have great games when I go to three bars and then come home to play! Of course I don't remember much afterwards, but that's not the point.
thanks for that Match search setting tip Lala.
It's bad.

It's a good tip video, unfortunately, even Woody later realized it wasn't the fix he thought it was:

Can they use it? Legally I mean, without having to pay royally to IW? Because I agree 100%.
Yes they can. Activision owns all things COD.
for me anything less than a 4 bar and i am hurting. I dont think i ever had a postive game with anything less than 4 bars.

I played a few rounds of gun game earlier and it felt fine. I have my match preference set to best though.

hmmm. skill based search. that would be new for COD right?
