Reuters displays the list of Toys "R" Us and its "Fabulous 15" hot toys for the holidays. On this list you will find products like "Dora's Talking Cash Register," "Power Rangers Deluxe Manticore Megazord," "Tap Dancing Mumble," an elmo product and the Wii.
Apparently Toys "R" Us picks products it thinks are going to be awesome for the holidays and this year they believe that the Wii is going to be such a product. Why no PlayStation 3? Kathleen Waugh, a spokeswomen for Toys R Us said:
"The PlayStation 3 is really geared to a savvy gaming enthusiast. The Wii system appeals to young kids as well as adults."
The other reason? In order to make the list Toys R Us has to predict sufficient stock of the product for the holiday season. There is no value in adding products to the list that consumers cannot consume.
Apparently the "black mark" of being a "kids system" isn't so bad after all. It seems to be better than a black mark that says "savvy gaming enthusiast." Most products that are talked about as requiring stricktly "hardcore" fans are new bleeding edge products like 1080p huge HDTV's, utterly expensive sound systems and other high end products that are not "consumer friendly" in pricing. Has the PS3 become a product like that?
