Thursday night Games of the Night (an idea)

I've been thinking an idea. Most of the time I host competitve games in various forms. I've noticed that we get a couple of good games in each week where people are perhaps trying a little harder to win. I like those games. I'm thinking of adding a 'little' more competition to it.

I'm going to suggest picking two players to be team captains for two games. They will fill out their respective teams by alternating party member selection. There will be one Infinty Slayer with default map vehicles and Slayer Pro without vehicles. Score to 1250-1500 or 15 minutes.

I don't want to make a big deal out of this. It's meant for fun.

Opinions?

Clarification. This would be only for two games. Nobody is bad enough to sit it out. It's still for fun and is not intended to lead to enhanced skills based games. I am experimenting with keeping the entire experience well rounded.

When we/I hosted rooms from Halo 2 and 3, if we didn't have set teams that were scrimmaging, we'd play a game to see where folks stood if we didn't know them. After that, the two worst* players were team captains and picked teams.  That repeated, with the two worst players being captains until the Bubba Rule hit, where you could only be captain three times in a row.  In that case, it went to the next worst player.

I like being opposite. Also, being the worst is my savory roll and I don't want to pick teams.

This sounds like a good idea. I tend to get competitive, even if its a social game.

If we are picking teams ill sit out. I'd be the last picked every time and who wants to be the fat kid in PE class? Not me! Is this just for a few games, then it goes back to "normal" or is the new plan for Thursdays?

I'm personally don't have any reservations about this. I do enjoy a good spirited conflict with freinds, however I can see where this could dwindle the ranks a bit on thursdays which I don't think is good.  We can always start up a second room for this, given that we've been at max capacity the last few thursdays  I bet we can have a full room of either style gameplay.

Could do a select few (2-3) games like this, where the two with the highest KDR pick teams (or lowest, which may work better IMO), then the rest of the time we play goofy stuff like donut derby.

I think despite the smoothe factor we've always managed to balance teams fairly well to be competitive.  School yarding is unnecessarily divisive in my opinion.  Not in keeping with the spirit of Thursday Night.

So I'll tell my favorite story about it.

Dixon is right, when profanity gets together I am routinely the worst player in the room.  So one game where I was choosing and he was being extraordinarily whiny, I chose Dixon first.

You could hear his already sizeable head swelling.

I then chose the 3 remaining worst players in the room and we proceeded to get our asses completely handed to us.  Dixon experienced "network difficulties" halfway through the game and never came back.

Mission accomplished.

Mwah ha ha!

The message is coming through pretty plainly. I'll lock this this evening. I don't mind at all. Status quo is pretty dog gone good. :)
