Next Gen chest beating

So I'm not so much new on this site since I've technically been a member for nearly 8 years but I'm not sure I've ever posted to the forums before either.

Recently I've been reading a lot of articles about the next gen consoles.  Many of the articles revolve around their hardware and how many photons these machines can get your tv to shoot at your eyes in the shortest period of time.  I feel like there are the same arguments every time.  "This one has a faster CPU and/or GPU" and "That one has more memory" blah blah blah.  For me, I want to hear more about the games and how the consoles are making a more immersive experience for the gamer.

Here are the things I take into consideration when buying a console
1. Are there any games I really want to play and if so what console are they on.
2. What's the online experience like?
3. What features outside of gaming does the console offer. (Video Streaming, Web Browsing, Social Networks)
4. What is the cost of the console, peripherals and any online services.
5. Are customers complaining about systems overheating, producing a lot of noise or having any problems with controllers or other peripherals?
6. Can I play my current games on the new console or do I have to keep my old console hooked up if I want to go back and play Oblivion again for the nth time?

How do others go about deciding on a console (or not)?

Welcome to the site.

Deciding on a console is a tough thing as they're very similiar.  I'm sticking with the XBox as that's what system my clan is on.  Plus I just really like the controllers.
